Squier vintage modified club, part 2

Hey folks. I picked up a Squier P bass. Can anyone tell me if it is a Vintage Modified and what wood the fretboard is made of? I'm going to fix her up some, change the pick guard, clean it and change the strings. It might be for a keeper or I can flip it. I got it at a good price. I belive that was built by Cort in Indonesia in 2008.
I have a 2007 Squier Affinity P (made in Indonesia by Cort)
From what I can gather, my bass has an Agathis body, maple neck and rosewood fingerboard.

That gives me the year. I'm going to assume it's rosewood that is maybe not the prettiest and its sealed differently and maybe that is a cost saver. But it's not the rosewood that I've seen on other bass guitars and not the same rosewood that is on my acoustic guild made in china. Thanks for the help you all.

I also thought an '08 for the year. Not 2014. When I brought it home, I plugged it in and although it only had a G string on it, I thought it sounded pretty good. I have a 2017 Classic Series P bass to compare it to. Once I get it cleaned up some and restrung, I'll see what I want to do. It has a long hairline crack in the body finish. Nothing to crap about though.

Check the fingerboard in the first fret area for a crack. My neck was basically ruined because the truss rod was overtightened which crushed the wood that it presses against. This caused the truss rod end to push up on the fretboard causing it to split. I'm not sure if it was due to soft neck wood or if the fretboard was too thin. I'm pretty sure mine was also an '08. I posted pictures of the crushed wood somewhere in this site. I had removed the fretboard planning to replace it but decided it was too much trouble to repair once I saw the inside.

No worry, it is rosewood, but in light brown wood colour. Just like my previous CIC CV60P, lighter wood colour than Dark rosewood board on CIC CV60J. Could look nicer once oil it.

Late to the party. I need a fretted 5 string for some upcoming rock+country. Lot's of Eb and I needed an inexpensive bass. and not bring my CIJ and MIA FSO r the 6 string Almost spent 1600 to 2300 for a couple basses here and one on Reverb Fender Jazz V, A Sadowsky Modern Metroline 24 5 and a Sandberg TM-5 on reverb. Prac ticality wins.

I got this Vintage Modified Jazz V off of local CL (ABQ) for relatively good price and the frets were leveled already. I did do a trade for vintage Kramer tuner and bridge for ultralite Y set and a Kickass bridge. So i got that in. The bridge needed some help as I want higher action and the tuner is a but finicky adjusting the B, plus now I am going on a Black and White color scheme.

I am waiting for EMG JAX5 set and a black control plate

I got an used VM PJ in lake placid blue couple weeks ago. Entire condition are nice but those pot are crap.
After clean it and installed new pot ( mod to V/V configuration ), the bass play quite nice . Stock pup also sing very well too.
The only problem are few fret buzz on D G string within 13th ~ 16th fret. Similar issue happens on my previous VM70J and VM Std J.

At the end, i install the very nice quality CIC Squier Matt freeman Neck on it (remove from Fender Classic 70s body ). Now she play much nicer and smoother on my fretting hand. My favorite Vintage bridge and Ti flat loaded , along with Anodized Black pickguard.

I been own a CIC Squier CV60s P in Fiesta Red, i mod it become my " Poorman Pino Sig P. "

Now this Lake placid blue VM PJ transform to " Poorman Am Performer PJ "

Not super versatile, but it does sound good in certain situations.

I used to have one of those TB "Precision" basses. I got it as a Craig'sList score around 2015 or 2016--back when C'sL was a viable option and used prices of VM and CV Squiers were $200 or less. I bought it because it was so inexpensive, $150 with a gig bag. Great neck profile.

Anyhoo... I found it had a really hot output and was indeed not super versatile. I found a wiring diagram here on TB that provided a series/parallel option for the Squier WideRange humbucker. I used a 500KA push/pull tone pot for that, and switched the volume pot for a 500KB pot. I highly recommend at least doing the series/parallel mod. Parallel mode did have an output that was equal to the output of my other basses, and parallel mode also had a nice clarity to it, with a deep low end, sort of like a Hi Gain neck pickup of a Ric. Between that clarity and the usual, series mud bucker tones, it was a much more usable bass.
However, I didn't play it much and they started selling for more than $300, so I sold it.

It helped, but didn't completely eliminate the problem, and from what I've read they weren't the best quality to begin with. Those of you that have upgraded your pots - what did you upgrade to? Love to find something that is a good quality upgrade without being crazy expensive.

If you don't mind the possibility of slightly drilling out the holes on the plate, any CTS or Bournes will be great. Otherwise, it's easy to get a set of Alphas that will drop right in. Even the most expensive pots are about $10 each.
There is a rabbit hole of info and opinions as to what value and taper to get. For VVT, I prefer 250K linear volumes and a 500K audio tone with a .047-.068uF tone cap. This gets you finer adjustment on the volume blends and a wide tonal range.

Another late to the party. I have sunburst Jazz fretless as well. Guy was selling a high end SKB TSA case and there was bass in it. Case was 150, so this is a free bass. I left it at one of my rehearsal space. It has issues, seize truss rod nut. So the only way was to shim it and keep the action high.

it actually sounds decent . Amp is an old bass 350 and cab is an old Carvin 210 (not the red eye ). You all know how it looks,

Taken out of an H6 Zoom, but I did use ribbon for a room recording of a jam/rehearsal. Bass is pretty dominant. No effects

Resurrecting this thread so I can show off my VM, through the whole of this club I've only found 2 others like mine.

2012 Telecaster Bass

This one is immaculate, I would say she'd never been out of her case. plastic still on pick guard & control panel nut and and action stupidly high - just like a lot of guitars leave the factories, wrapped in packing foam inside original box. Not a single blemish.

Got her set up by my tech the same day and that's when I found it was 32" scale but feels full size because of the design. she plays fantastic.

The pickup is a bit hot for my tastes, even when fully screwed down, not measured output but feel it's the Duncan Designed version of the quarter pounder and I'm not overly keen on the switching positions = Baritone (no tone), Single Coil (with tone), Double Bass (no tone).

I'm going to swap the pickup for a more vintage sounding one (any suggestions) I'd really like to get hold of the Wilkinson unit that was in the early Harley Benton PB-50

As for the tones, probably get a new control panel without the switch slot, then a custom 50's style wiring loo
