I have the 201 on my VM. Once I got my luthier friend/bandmate to shim the neck for me, I was able to get the action a bit lower. However, nowhere near as low as my MIJ Geddy without running into issues with fret buzz, etc.

I might just go with the kickass bridge in black.
Now I've got to look into tuners. Can anyone recommend me good ones in black that don't have the stock shape/look to them and aren't $50 a piece.

Hey VM club! My two current basses are Vintage Modified basses - a Jazz and a Precision. The Jazz was a fretless but the fingerboard was damaged so I swapped in a CV fretted neck for now. (I also did a fingerboard replacement on the fretless neck but it needs some leveling before I can use it).
I was wondering if anyone knows if there are replacement pickguards for an '06 VM precision that will just drop in and fit perfectly. Thinking of changing to tort - always been a fan of white+tort PG.
I have the original "Duncan Designed" pickups for both, but currently both have Fender MIM pickups installed. I liked the J ones but I'm giving the Fender pickups a try. The original P pickup was a bit too percussive for me, though some technique adjustments might reduce that.

My Squier Vintage Modified Precision. Got it used, for a very reasonable price. Lotsa bass for the buck. Fun instrument! (All original, except for the strings and the pickguard.)
So I just picked up this 2011 (2010?) VM Jag in a trade for a Squier guitar. My first 4 string in along, long time. It has a few dings on it but the neck and everything else is great, including the kicka$$ bridge that came on it. I put a 7+ year old set of Sadowsky flats on it, fixed a loose wire on the front pickup capacitor and did a set up and polish. I gotta say, it's a heck of a little player! Quite surprising and fun to play.
Most likely it will be. The Antiquity gets quite a bit of love around here.
I liked the DD'S in my VM Jazz too. The P pup is percussive? I kind of like that.
I know right? I've had my '13 VM Jazz since new in '13 & it's been a workhorse. Tough as nails!
But the neck? Just incredible! I've been raving about this particular neck for years. It's every bit as good as any of my MIAs or the MIJ. Just superb!
Hey folks. I picked up a Squier P bass. Can anyone tell me if it is a Vintage Modified and what wood the fretboard is made of? I'm going to fix her up some, change the pick guard, clean it and change the strings. It might be for a keeper or I can flip it. I got it at a good price. I want' to know what the fingerboard wood is so I can approach cleaning it properly.
It's a Vintage Modified. The Duncan Designed pickup is a give away. I'd say its about 2014ish. That is a rosewood fingerboard. I believe the body on those was agathis. The natural finished ones were maple fingerboard and the body was soft maple. Great basses in their day

I had one exactly like this one. Those DD pickups sound pretty good but you might not get much if you sell them.
I use F One fretboard oil on mine. It isn't really meant to be a cleaner but I have found it does a good job anyway. put a drop or so on each fret space. I use an old white t-shirt to rub it over the whole area and then basically wipe it all off with a dry part of the cloth. I might repeat if the fretboard is really dry.
I also thought an '08 for the year. Not 2014. When I brought it home, I plugged it in and although it only had a G string on it, I thought it sounded pretty good. I have a 2017 Classic Series P bass to compare it to. Once I get it cleaned up some and restrung, I'll see what I want to do. It has a long hairline crack in the body finish. Nothing to crap about though.
