I know that the VMs have the 9 1/2" radius - but the CVs felt lots smaller - perhaps around 7 or 8 inches or so. They just felt round to me - so much so that they were uncomfortable.

This is the one big reason why I didn't buy the Markus Miller too - too rounded.

I can get a .004" feeler gauge in there - but not much more.

I fitted the cover as far forward as I could and where it landed is it's just touching the tops of the bridge ears - a tiny bit.

This leaves just a small portion of the screw downs on the rear p'up slightly visible but I compared it to others I found in my local GC and the GC mothership in Hollyweird and they don't stick out more than those that are installed.

I did exactly the same, but the bottom edge, (down by the strap button) I get a 1/16th" gap. Looks to me like the body curves down a little at that point, instead of being dead flat. Hopefully I won't let it bother me. :help:

Nope it's basically the whole entire rear portion of the cover, not just the mounting flanges, there's no way I could bend the whole thing. And yes, it looks like it's the contour of the body. I was just able to get it just a hair closer by tightening the screws a little more, but not really by much. I dunno, I wanna be real careful and not get the thing all bent out of shape or strip the screw holes. All in all, it's not really noticeable unless you inspect it up close, so I'm gonna try not to let it bug me. It still looks cool.

It actually looks worse in that picture than it does "for real", if you will. You really don't notice it unless you're looking close up. I didn't notice it until it was too late.
Oh well. I'll just have to live with it, I've spent $24 and a half hour putting that thing on. It stays.
As my Dad used to say, "A blind man on a galloping horse wouldn't notice it."

just got one of these - It was a gap-filler as I recently sold my 4 string basses and have been waiting impatiently for a 5-string to bid on.... thought I would keep this VMJ bass for a week then let it go. NO WAY!!!! :bassist:
This sucker has more character than the hamer cruise 2tek emg/etc ..... honest bottom and some shine up high!

QUESTION: I'm thinking of picking up some .110 Flats for this rig - what brand/type is best for this? Chromes? do they make a 110?

Congrats! is that the one I was watching on Ebay?? :)

I must say - now that I've practiced with mine and played a couple of live sets I'm more impressed. I'm playing detuned a whole step [D] and the tone is just mighty impressive. I'll go a step further - this is the first bass I have used in about 10 years that I don't feel the need to niche EQ treatment somewhere in the 200Hz range - the hamer and the mm sterling both had an annoying presence right around there that I found unsatisfactory and notched it out for the most part. I don't even use my Bass EQ pedal with the VM - it just sounds glorious. The solidity of the low D/open is a shake/quaker... I'm getting very even gain note-to-note fret-to-fret. its really all so surprising at this pricepoint. I had originally bought this one thinking/planning to change out the pups, but I see no rationale for doing so now, other than just the fun of trying others out...

Are any of you VM'ers running through a Tube preamp ?? and how's that tone?

Some people will tell you the wood type makes a difference in tone, some will tell you it doesn't. It is an ongoing (And sometimes nasty) debate that has never, and probaly will never be fully resolved. Me personally. I don't think it makes all that much difference, I never buy a bass because of what wood is used. I only care what the wood looks like when it is finished in a transparent color. And even if you believe that the wood affects the tone greatly, whether one type of wood sounds "better" than another is strictly a matter of personal preference. I wouldn't sweat it, just get the bass that appeals to you the most, sound and playability wise.
