I bought a Squier vmj a few weeks ago from best buy, and I found that the low e tuner is loose and starts to rattle, does any one know how to tighten this or some direct replacement tuners?

I had one loosen up and rattle, I was able to pull it straight off the splined shaft and JB weld it back on. Solid as a rock now.
I just bought a Squire Vintage Modified 70's J Bass in Natural Finish. At the Time was in the market for\r a used Mexican J in a sunburst or tobacco burst pattern. I saw the squire on the rack and decided to noodle on it a bit. the rest as they say is history.

yep... comfortable and fast to play, and versatile - its quite remarkable that "cheap" pickups like that can be so sensitive - just small mix adjustments bring out great nuance of color.
I guess mine has original strings on it - I'm wanting to get higher tension strings since I always play it tuned down whole step [all four] and I have to raise especially the bottom two strings pretty high to avoid rattle and pickup hits. If anyone has a suggestion.... more tension at those tunings would let me reduce the action gap a hair

- TI Flats
- Hipshot Tuners
- will only change pickups if not 'vintage' enough in tone
- pro fret-dress/level and setup (if needed)

I went with my standby bridge - Gotoh 203. I really like the simplicity of it and it is made of brass - always better than the OEM.
I will say - these Duncan Designed pups are quite different from the DiMarzio Model J's I have on 2 other basses. As long as the output level is near the same - I could get used to the voicing I think.
i dunno if its just me, but seems that used vmj, and cvj's, are scarce these days. I'm in the Austin area where there are a LOT of pro and wannabee musicians, and virtually none of either..... same with Ebay. I have persistent searches out there but very few come along, and get heavy bidding
Nothing wrong with the stock bridge on a Fender/Squier.

I'm gonna have to go ahead and very strongly disagree with you, there.
When I ripped the piece of tinfoil garbage off of my VM fretless and put on a BadAss II, the difference was night and day. The tone became richer all-around, and the sustain increased 200%.
