Squier vintage modified club

Mine arrived, sweet. I put in the black pg screws and Jazz style knobs. Black n brass Wilkinson vintage bridge on the way. Now I see the chrome tuners I like them, don't know if I'll go Black. But I am bidding on some Hipshots for fun, probably won't win.

I have inspected the tuners, counted teeth and am pretty sure these will drop in (same quality, which is fine) [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Just ordered a VM Jazz at the suggestion of a few great TB'ers.
I would be honored to be in this club.
:D

Planning on getting the "correct knobs" and a bridge cover.
Maybe a new bridge further down the road.

I'll consider myself a numberless member, seeing as a number hasn't been given out since the first page. :/

Hi guys!
I bought Vm Jazz az a backup for my Fender MM jazz, but time to time, I find myself jammin' on this funkmachine.
I'm quiet new to modding, but I want to mod this one out. Here's what I've benn thinking about:
-pikcguard (it looks cool)
-Badass BassII bridge (for more sustain)
-Fender noiseleless pickups
-Fender MIA Deluxe pre-amp + control plate

Any pros or cons about the pickups and the pre-amp?
BTW the VM line-up rocks! :bassist:

What's wrong with the pups as they are? I rather like them, I get a tone of voices outta this bass. I am going to go vol/blend/tone though. And throw in a treble bleed. Fiddlin with two knobs to play with the voices is, well too fiddly.

What you gonna do with the pickguard, just remove it? You weren't clear about that, just asking. You dig it, do it man , do it!. Pics please!

Badass: Surfer Joe says it'll suck all your bottom end into the black hole of the body. Don't know if that's true, but it sounds cool!:cool:

Anyway enjoy your new bass brother!

I would put copper tape shielding in the pickup and control cavities before buying noiseless pickups, that may be enough. The Duncan Design pickups sound pretty good.

Out of all that, I'd probably just change the bridge. The rest seems unnecessary. And, C. Linton is right, too. If you change the bridge out and put on a BadAss II, it will completely change the sound of the bass. I have a VM Fretless and the difference between the two bridges is night and day. I grew a LOT of sustain, but the sound also became brighter, snappier, and more modern than it did with the original bridge. I hated the original bridge, though, and the upgrade improved the overall sound of the bass drastically, IMO.

That's good info, thanks! I'll skip the bridge when I get mine.
Anyone have a certain string preference for these VM J basses?
I'm tempted to try flats for the first time...but I'll most likely just get rounds again.

I'm gonna try tapewounds on mine if they fit the nut. I really like flats on my epi tbird, first time I've used them;Fenders. They would be nice on the Jazz I think. They are so nice and smooth and classic sounding, and quiet. But its a preference thing. Just strings.com has them for about 20 bucks and a free fender mini tuner with them, you have to email a request for the tuner.

I did change my bridge with a Wilkinson vintage fender direct fit, black with brass saddles. Too cool looking. Cost me 23 bucks.

And Cliff (C.Linton) is right. Wait till you try the p'ups before you yank 'em. A wise man once said that a 300 watt amp will only put out 300 watts no matter what pickups you use. They will sound different yes, but they won't be louder. If that's what your reasoning is. These baby's rock my Ampeg.
