Squier Vintage Modified Precision V: who's got one?

If I wasn't a die hard Dingwall player when it comes to my low B, I'd be all over this right now. I had a Squier Precision 5 from years ago that I 'modded' with a real P pickup. I sold it here on TB some time ago.

I'm tempted to get one and tune it E-C...

Since ordering this I came across something that would work as a backup to my Nordy VPJ5 so I was already in half a mind to get my money back on this if I wasn't really impressed.

Needless to say it's back home with me!

There's a bit of an ugly join in the body wood and it's a little heavier than I like (probably about 9.5lbs) but other than that I can't find fault and it's a screaming deal.

I changed out the stock strings and gave the truss-rod a tweak and it's set up as good as anything I own. Frets are nice and level, the neck profile is fine, and the sound is just what you'd expect.

Of course it's not as good as my Nordy but, at a tenth of the price, what can you expect. I have a dive bar gig this weekend and I plan on taking this along. And I won't be changing the decal, I'm quite happy to be seen with a Squier bass when they're this good.

You'll probably see a few of these in the classifieds before long. I think quite a few of us will check these out even if we don't have a need for it. Heck I'm already considering the Jaguar!

I'll post pics later before anybody complains!

Sorry about the weight comments:
I thought this was the Vintage Modified Jazz thread as I was reading too fast.

I don't think the Ps suffer from that same weight dilemma quite as much!

Couple of hurried pics, didn't have time to make them look better. Weight is actually 9.1lbs.

It's really comfortable, maybe a tad deeper and rounder than my Nordy, but still very playable.

I took the bass to rehearsal last night and it is a little neck heavy (something I've found with the roadworn Fenders as well). I'm going to add Dunlop straplocks which might help a little by putting the strap a little further from the body. Ultralite tuners would help but the cost would be half of what the bass cost!

I'm just amazed how well this bass set up, just a quarter turn on the truss-rod and it plays as good as anything I've played, didn't have to cut the nut slots deeper or move bridge saddles or anything. The fretwork for the price range is exceptional.
