Squier Vintage Modified Precision V: who's got one?

What's the current average price in USA at the moment?
I noticed its price's been raised at least twice in the biggest European music store since this bass was released. At first it was priced at 299€, then 349€. Now it's priced at 369€ which is 415$.
I've seen other fender prices growing up like crazy lately.

Hey, I've had my p5 on the shelf for a couple of months because I've been lazy with the mods. I added a delano pmvc 5 on it, but now I have to cut a new pickguard. Or alternatively I could just buy a 4-string pickguard, any thoughts?
I know somebody put in a 4 string mint green pickguard, but I'd like to know where I can buy one that will fit the bass with minimal work. Thanks

It muffles up pretty nicely with a bit of the tone rolled off. I mean you won't fool a vintage p bass connoisseur, but no one in the audience actually listening to the music will give a damn. Honestly though, I can give a better assessment when I get the proper pickguard on and sort out the shielding. Now I just have to get off my lazy a** and get to work.

Sounds like a Squier Protone 5!
I have a Protone 5, AND a VM 5. They are different...I like them both equally. Sounds like you need one of each! :D:D

Ya thats where i got them from...i actaully had a line on 3 fifferent ones ranging from 200-350 and when i got my paycheck all three were gone that were there that morning....i ended up with a fiesta red cvp which is fantastic by its own....the only thing i dont miss about the pro tone is that 2in nut and super flat fretboard..i have big hands and they would still be sore after playing a gig
I think the the vmp with the pro tone soaps could solve this and give me the best of both

Got the pickups and pots installed , had to file the pickguard some to fit the Am. standard pickup to fit . Must have filed the wrong side as the strings are too far towards the bass side . I'll file it some to fix that later . I haven't fired it up yet but here's a pic of the new pots and wiring . Might have to get a fender bridge to help with string spacing and alignment .

Darn the gas !

Interesting......I find the necks quite similar!
I have noticed the pups on the VM5 are higher output (hotter) than the Protone. No big deal though....that is what the volume control on the amp is for! ;)
I'm sure they vary, but my Protone is noticeably lighter.

That was probably me. I installed Nordstrands (not the Fender size, but the 4 string shell size) the PG I used was a Fender standard size. Most of the holes lined up :)

HHMMMMM......how would you describe the diff. in the stock pups vs. the Dings? I've actually been thinking of selling the Protone, as the 2 are so similar, but maybe I should rethink? Never actually heard a Dingwall.

Thanks. Yea, the stock pups sound really nice.....I'm running them with GHS Precision flats. Thump city! Thinking of switching them over to the VM just for giggles. Still have the stock rounds on it. Hated them at first, but after they broke in they got better (but not great).

This is weird. A bunch of us have put Am Std and Nordy p'ups into or VMP5's without any cutting or filing needed.

Did you do it because the pickup was too wide for the opening, or because you were trying to improve the string alignment over the pole pieces?

The normal fix for alignment issues is to either loosen the neck screws and crank the neck slightly in the joint, or use pop-can spacers to adjust the saddle spacing at the bridge.

The pickup was too wide lengthwise for the pickguard by just a hair towards the control side . It was close but just wouldn't fit . I filed a little towards the top side of the guard just to make it fit but when I set the pickup in and put a few screws in the guard to see how it lined up the pole pieces were off . I later filed the other side of the guard and got the poles to line up right . I also had to move the pickup mounting screws toward the control side to make it right with pole spacing . Now my pickguard isn't quite perfect because I filed the wrong side first but I'm sure I'll be the only one to notice .

Only the long side of the pickup was off center , the two pole side lined up fine . Also the original pickup was aligned right too . I guess I won't have to get a new bridge now .

I don't know Steve , must have been a fluke .
