I found a used but like new VM P5 last week at GC. I had to try it and bought it (on hold) for $149.00. I have not had a 5er in years and never thought I would again but they are so cool being a P bas. My new gloomy, darkwave band will be a perfect home for her.

Here's mine after some mods:
- Hipshot Aluminum Type B Bridge
- Black Aluminum Knobs
- Black Pickguard Screws
- New electronics with CTS Pots, Switchcraft Plug and Orange Drop Cap.
- EB Flats

Next mod will be black Hipshot Ultralite Tuners, and that'll be all. I'm pretty happy with the stock pups.

I finally took off the stock strings on mine, and replaced them with D'Addario half rounds. Wow plays better (B used to rattle a tad when I really dug in....now NO rattle with lower action! Plus of course they feel much smoother), and sounds like HEAVEN (stock pups are just fine!). The somewhat honky/harshness in the mids are GONE. Running my GB Contour almost dead flat now! Color me happy!

Have been practicing with my VMPV, and the sound I'm getting out of it with the mods and the EB Flats is absolutely sweet... I'm in love...

You guys are killing me. I'm really gassing for one of these right now. They're generally cheap enough I could justify getting one but I can't seem to find one anywhere. It seems people are mostly hanging on to these.

I love my VM5 P-Bass it was like love at first sight. But I'm thinking of upgrading it. I'm gonna turn it into a PJ and change pickups.
But I have trouble choosing pickups. Im leaning towards the Nordstrand NP5F and NJ5FS. Should I consider another model or another Company?
What do you guys suggest?

My experiment with the VMP5 didn't last 24 hours. As much as I liked it the width of fretboard was just to much for me and my style so it went back.

Especially good price compared to Sweetwater which has increased their price to $349

I'm worried about that too. I like a chunky four string P bass neck but a P V might be too much. Unfortunately, I'm still yet to get my hands on one. Can't find one anywhere near me.

Yeah it was quite a stretch for me flat but very wide. I am just a lowly P bass player...I yam what I yam

I can vouch for the Nordstrand P 5 pickup. It focuses the lower mids a bit more and makes each note a little more distinct. I consider it money well spent.

I have the Jazz 5 one of these and I wouldn't buy the P version because I suspect they have the same neck carve and I know they have the same nut width and I dislike mine for both those reasons. I'd rather just have a Warmoth made for me how I like. Yes, it's more expensive but I can manage the cost by focusing on only what matters to me and quality.

I have one. Bought it used cause the fella could not get used to the neck. Bought it and gigged it that same day just for kicks. I need to lower the action but I like the bass.

I don't main it, but always good to have a P when you need it. Sunburst/tort and maple neck. Beautiful bass.
