So I bought this LP on a whim seeing it has former Kyuss members. Anyhoo, of note is the recording because the bass is thundering and up-front. None of that rubberband, wet-noodle monkey business.

And Justin Bieber's new project called Pöp just released their first album as well titled "Popers Rule".

I listened to some of it and I must say that I really don't like it, the instrumentation is too much in the background and sort of lifeless and boring as well and the vocals way too much in the front, especially with those absolutely meaningless poop lyrics, and the production at the same time sound way too polished and absolutely crappy.

Is this a joke, cause to me it sure does sound like one, which the band name and album title seems to confirm too?

The mixing and production reminds me of Black Label Society from the 90s and just like that, this is REALLY hard to listen to. Some people get off on that kinda low budget recording style sound. There's millions of people who dig that in the black metal world, which to me sounds like "earape".

As far as the music itself, honestly, it does absolutely nothing for me. Even as a former pothead of nearly 20 years, nothin. It's boring and has the same monotonous volume throughout and the songs never really "go anywhere" FOR ME.

Prog metal, power metal, tech metal, technical death core? Well Bobs your uncle. Stoner metal? Meh. I'll pass.

I actually like some stoner rock, but this sounds like amateurs making fun at the genre to me, but without really understanding it.

I guess it's not though, which just makes this really really strange to me, and absolutely not strange in a good way.

Perhaps it's just me who doesn't get it after all, but as said I do enjoy a few bands that falls into the stoner category, and the musical project I am in that currently has my main focus is in fact actually stoner influenced as well.

So odd...

Don't feel bad man. I love John Tesh and Shokran played back to back. Or Celine Dion and Pantera. Or Bette Middler and Haken. There's no accounting for taste.

I'm a late comer to Kyuss, but a fan nonetheless. I'll listen to anything Nick Oliveri puts that massive bass riffage to. I love that he's so up front and I'm going to jam to this. I love that it's unabashedly over the top...and FUN!

This aint Kyuss but there is some of the Kyuss tone in there.
I could listen through it if the vocals were better, buried or non existent

I thought Eagles of death metal were going to be more Kyuss like... i was disappointed by them too

Nah, there is no such thing as stupid questions - just stupid people.

And I've heard the material. It is alright but didn't really stand out to me. I do get the comments about the production value as well. While different than most of the other post-Kyuss projects, it doesn't sound too different from many classic stoner albums.

While lo-fi can be hit or miss, I can't diss it in this case. The band was basically going for the rawness of just jamming and having fun with none of the twiddly stuff that comes with studio recording, post production and all that. I have to appreciate that.

What's the most fun part of being in a band? Just jamming, man. Maybe having some beers and ganja in between as well. The least fun part? Studio recording. It feels so cold, clinical, disconnected, and decidedly non-organic.

Moral of the story, this is what it is and it captures the vibe it's meant to capture. It's not refined, it's not overly worked out, it's just having fun jamming.

Grab a beer, partake in a little herb, and see if you don't enjoy Stöner more.
