General advice: Go with boots. Versatile, practical, comfortable.

My go-to's would be a pair of Blundstones, a pair of desert/chukka boots (eg. Clarks) or a pair of Doc Martens. All of these look good with either black trousers, or blue jeans so you'll get more mileage out of them.

I’ve had two pairs where the sole just disintegrated within a couple of years. I’ll never buy Blundstones again.

My wife’s pair has lasted her for about 20 years.

The soles on my big size 13 clodhoppers were completely different from the soles on her smaller Blundstones.

I had the same issue with a pair of Blundstones back in the early aughts. My understanding is that Blundstone re-worked the rubber formula in their soles a few years back. I've owned a couple pairs since (both steel-toed for work and regular for every-day wear) and they've been rock-solid. Most comfortable footwear I own.

My drummer says you can have it, but it will cost you an arm and a leg.

I wouldn't recommend it. His current collection of arms and legs has a bad odor.

OP...

...My question is this, when I dress for a gig I usually wear dress shoes. But on this gig that wouldn't have worked. I felt funny wearing tennis shoes but what else can you wear with jeans? So this is my question. What kind of shoes do y'all wear on gigs?

Shoes - Rockport ProWalkers....still available via Amazon in a handful of shades.

Slacks - Dickies 874's. Again, any number of colors, inexpensive, and they hold-up like nobody's business.

I do somewhat envy those who have a choice of footwear. My feet are bad enough that the New Balance trail runners with double foam insoles are my only choice.

Since my earlier post, I have learned that Skechers light hikers with memory foam insoles are every bit as good.
