I wear what is appropriate for the gig and style. I’ve done straight ahead jazz gigs in jeans and a button down and rock gigs in a coat and tie. I always ask unless it’s obvious and even then sometimes it’s not

Like everyone else, I favor footwear that is both comfortable to stand in all day and doesn't look like a stodgy, old-school orthopedic shoe. Although if/when I need those, I love that nowadays, one can get orthopedic shoes that look fashionable.

I wear my Keens hiking shoes usually. They’re brown and inconspicuous, and most often my feet are obscured by the briefcase that I use as a pedalboard anyway, so no one is seeing my shoes anyway.

I do somewhat envy those who have a choice of footwear. My feet are bad enough that the New Balance trail runners with double foam insoles are my only choice.

I wasn't sure where to put this but here goes. Normally when I play out I dress up. Sometimes a coat and tie but usually always a dress shirt. The other day I got a call to do a gig on very short notice. No rehearsal. 3 sets. I knew maybe 1/3 of the tunes. I asked the band leader do you guys dress up? He said usually just t shirts and jeans. My question is this, when I dress for a gig I usually wear dress shoes. But on this gig that wouldn't have worked. I felt funny wearing tennis shoes but what else can you wear with jeans? So this is my question. What kind of shoes do y'all wear on gigs?

Shorts, a baseball cap, a t-shirt, and either sneakers or sandals. Perfect stage attire. Unless you’re playing a wedding. Then get rid of the cap.

I did once wear leather trousers to be more 'rock'. But if I wore the leg covering shown here then given my physique these days we'd lose a ton of money on gigs.
