These are quite literally my steel toe boots at work for when I go out into the plant.
None of my shoes are bad looking, but comfort is still key for me. I've never noticed an audience members looking at my shoes and shaking their heads in disgust.
What's the gig?
When I'm playing in a tight sweaty bar full of people wearing jeans and t-shirts, I pretty much wear jeans and a t-shirt. The selfie in my avatar was from a night like that.
When I'm playing at an upscale suburban "night club", I'm likely to wear nicer jeans and a button up shirt.
At a corporate event or a wedding, whatever the contract says or the bride wants. I do have one trick here though - Vuori meta pants in black are way more comfortable than wool tuxedo pants if you're playing three sets. I wear them with a dark blue velvet dinner coat, comes off great.

I'm a firm believer in looking the part, looking like your a musician and not just some shmoe from the crowd. For me its nice jeans, I like Rock 47 from Wrangler, a black collared shirt, a clean pair of Doc's on the feet and topped with a nice Ivy/newsboy cap. See Avatar

Yeah there are some very questionable footwear choices in here. I get that some people don't really care what they look like, but I've always felt that I'd rather watch a gig where people looked like they wanted to be there i.e. appropriately dressed.
Well chronologically speaking… many of us are one step away from being geriatric musicians. If the shoe fits…
i generally wear boots or a nice black solid leather shoe.
Unless otherwise stated, I try to dress about 1 degree nicer than the people I’m playing for. But I never wear shorts or jeans. For super casual I’ll wear linen pants instead.
Well if you've ever played a gig in Summer heat outside in Florida, dressing up is really not a good idea unless you are interested in heat stroke. If I am doing indoor shows in nicer venues the clothing choices would be on the nicer side.
My rule is dress to the venue and climate.
dudes, please dont wear Dr scholls, non-slip restaurant shoes or those low cut boot shoes whatever those are. have some self respect guys
I'd wear flip flops unless it was formal. But some people are super scruffy.
I wear my dirty Blundstone boots, but "dress code" for my band is jeans, t-shirt, flannel aka "grunge formal"
