My sis just got her 2x12 cab in on Wednesday. Talk about impressive, we ordered it on Friday (late afternoon, at that), and it arrived on Wednesday. Nice!
Cranked it up, and I am duly impressed. We literally had to stop turning it up because we were rattling things off the shelves in our house.
We used it for a band rehearsal on Thursday. I would say that we rehearse at probably 80 percent volume, maybe more, maybe less. Typically, though, the PA carries the other 20 percent. The Steelsound performed amazingly. Finally, we could get the bass up to an appropriate volume level to compete with guitars. Grooves were better, and as a band, we were completely locking in to each other... simply because we could hear the bass. Amazing!
The only thing that frustrates me is that the head we're using (Behringer 300W head) runs out of steam before getting to that ear-splitting level that I like to have available (I like to know that a rig can go louder than I would ever need). Luckily, with some careful EQ adjustments, I can dial in the most headroom and also match the EQ of the cabinet...
I'm soooo used to using combos where the EQ is matched to the speaker and to the enclosure... When using a separate cab, however, you really have to get some clue about what you're doing on the EQ side or else you get some really HOT notes and some really DEAD notes. For me, C-Eb on the A string were really hot, and F#-G on the E string were dead. I spent a few minutes tweaking EQ, though, and was able to dial those inconsistencies out. Not sure if these "hot spots" were due to the cab or to the amp. Pretty sure it was the amp.
Anyway, great cab. Every ounce of buzzing or distortion I've detected so far have come either from clipping the amplifier or vibrating other things in the cab's vicinity. Thanks, Jay, for the strong reccomendation. I may sell my 230W Peavey combo to buy a couple of these and the new Behringer 450W head... lol...
