Steelsound 2x12 review

Good point. I am sure it is also possible to get accoustically superior 9 ply as compared to a particular 13 ply. I suppose it will also be lighter. That's important to us old guys!

I am having a little boy hissy fit waiting for mine to arrive. I haven't owned my own gear for 18 years, the waiting is just to much!

I personally would not worry about it other than asking Steel Sounf to update their specs...

I personally am not worried about it. overall my initial review was positive. but i posted the pics since i dont want anyone to think i am full of crap about it being 9 ply. i also think that if something is 9 ply, it should be advertised as 9 ply.

FYI, those steel 4 handles i linked below are now listed for $10 BIN.

If true, that is a dissappointing report. I would hope that someone from the company would jump on and clarify.

Good to see the site is all ready to go, I got a few questions to ask you regarding some purchases I would like to make in the future:

1. I now realise why you guys pulled those legion sound cases for a while, my handles came right off! Have there been any problems since you switched to using nuts/bolts instead of rivets? Also, have all the cases been switched over, it doesn't say under the 12U model.
2. Will there ever be 16ohm Knight 12's for sale?
3. When?
4. If not, how logical is it to buy a pair of Knights and the 16ohm recone kits?

My questions for Dawn got buried :hmm:

Could it be your horn/tweeter? Have you tried it with the horn turned down or off? My SWR did that to me once, I ended up replacing the horn and it cured it.

On the flipside, I had a MusicMan cab have it's 10" driver start to go bad on me once, I was able to get through the gig, but it drove me nutz hearing the cone breakup. Replaced that speaker with a reconed Ampeg and it was fine ever after.

Actually, after further examination, it's my 210 (Seismic Audio) and not the 212. I'm starting to think that it's the cones...no visible damage, I'll probably need to check the innards....I was gonna replace the drivers w/ Eminence anyway.

Thanks to you and vicenzajay for the suggestions

Just read the entire thread. Very impressed at the reviews. Intriguing to say the least. ;)

Being as the 212 isn't available in 8 ohm I wouldn't be able to pair it with my 4x10 (Workingman, 8 ohm), unless the CE1000 could handle 2.6 ohm mono. :hmm:

But, something that did catch my eye was that njdx had a Steelsound 18 inch cab? And 8 ohm at that. :hyper: That's not on the site...... Any information on that cab? Price/availablity and whatnot?

**** still having a few issues here and there on the cases. but not like it was before.. so they are improving .. just not where id like to see them be at yet.. so its a work in progress******

**** no those are still only in 8.. and have only been 8ohm since ive been here so i dont see those coming in 16 anytime soon****

** id see too many problems happening.. the magnets should be close.. BUT the coils are going to be different and the gapping is also.. so i would say logically no.. it would just be asking for trouble to try to do that

it also is not 13 ply as advertised, its 9 ply... i counted the layers and there is even a "9" stamped inside.

OK the low down.. as i have found out in my exploring of the warehouse.. we order these as 13 ply.. across the board.. of 5 boxes i have checked and counted myself .. .3 of the 5 are 9 ply.. so .. we are getting hosed on the wood to put it simple.. they are suppose to be and they are ordered as 13 ply..but its looking like a mix stock that we got.. so this is just a quick update.. ill let ya know when i know more.

right now we are out of stock.. but i have an order of them coming in .. could be 14-25 days out still..depending on the builders work load. but heres the info:

Professionally made, professional sounding 18 cabinet made for the working Sound man or musician that demands both quality and a good price. Shop around, you won't find a better deal PERIOD! One of the most important features about this cabinet is that it is made of high quality 13 ply Birch ****(COULD BE 9 PLY GUYS I HAVENT OPENED THESE UP YET SO DONT GO OFF THIS)*****hardwood. Not only is this material expensive, it is half the weight of cheaper particle board and MDF and what's more is that it is 10 times stronger. This is the reason why professional gear is made out of this material. We design our cabinets using many years of experience, not only with the best software available today but also with usage and real sound quality in mind. We are NOT some wholesaler that just sells whatever speaker we can get at a good price. We build our speakers to last, sound the way they should sound and we do it at a price that can not be beat ANYWHERE!

This unique cabinet is sort of a dual design. It's a hybrid 18" bass cabinet and/or 18" subwoofer cabinet. It includes a tripod mount on top incase you want to mount main speakers above it via a steel stand pole. It retains very smooth (port flutter free) deep bass response. More than anything it makes a very nice, full sounding subwoofer cabinet. If you would like to use it as a small subwoofer cabinet, you can certainly add a crossover which we have available. A good one to go with is the "CN-1 high power" which can handle up to 750 watts RMS and will cross the woofer over at 125hz. This is great for DJ's looking for a small yet high power subwoofer that can handle professional applications. As a bass cabinet, your talkin very punchy bottom end with the ability to handle anything you can throw at it.

Bar handles, rubber feet, metal corners, dual air sealed 1/4" jack plate wired in parallel, 1 3/8" tirpod mount on top. Full face 18 gauge steel grill, dual 3x5 ports.

Madison Executioner 18 with 100oz. magnet, 4" copper clad aluminum voice coil and cast aluminum frame

8ohm
500 watts RMS, 1000 watts peak
25 to 2,000hz
100db
24x23x20 75LBS
We honestly rate all of our speakers based real power and real usage. We don't play games with "Program Power" "Max SPL" or "Music Power" ratings. We don't inflate our ratings either. We give it to you straight and without tricks. We hand make some of our cabinets here in the US so from time to time you might see a slight blemish here or there. However, we take pride in what we do. We drop test or speakers and sound test them at the highest levels before a design goes on the market. You can expect quality and real to life pro and musical sound knowledge from MSC.

Hi Dawn,

I'm interested in your 2X12. However, I'd like to know what is new re: the 9-ply plywood. Are you going to make the 13-ply cabinets still? Did you guys sue your supplier? -just kidding about that one- Please let us know. Thanks

p.s. Please note my screen name....do you guys have endorsers?????

good morning

right now its a toss up really.. what is in stock is mixed..but id just say count on 9ply for that.. then it wont be a suprise :)

we dont endorse.. but try madisonspeakers web site.. they endorse but have what they like to see required first :)
catch ya all later.. im gonna go home early.. not feeling up to parr

Wanted to let anyone know who has been keeping tabs on this thread that I am very happy with this cabinet. Had a little horsey riding accident and broke three ribs :bawl: , hence the delay in posting.

Whether it is 9 or 13 ply, I'm not giving it back. I would say my impression is about the same as VincenzaJay's, but I will give a complete review as soon as I can. I am powering it with a Peavey Firebass 700 that I bought for $200.00 locally. It is quite decent for a total investment of $380.00. Volume is not a problem and as GSPLBASSDC mentioned in one of his posts, there is indeed some serious rumbling to be had.
