Yep, I've had one for several months now, using a generic Dell PC and Win10. IIRC it cost me around 160 bucks on eBay, from an authorized dealer's Make An Offer link. The only real downside for me so far is that the second input pair always runs through an onboard preamp, even in +4dB mode, which I was trying to avoid by buying this piece. But the noise floor is OK for my purposes anyway, through either set of inputs.
The version of Cubase mine came with is a bit of a PITA, but it does work fine, sounds pretty good, and since I have other software for editing and post processing tasks I've only been using Cubase for tracking anyway.

Have no idea. I was eyeballing the Steinberg because it has 'no fuss no muss' line level inputs on it which means I can jack keyboard line level "outs" straight into it and play.
Can't tell whether a Focusrite does this or not from looking at their schematics. I saw one Focusrite diagram that showed keys hooked up as MIDI......but that's not what I want.
Not sure what you mean...(as yet I don't own any kind of D.I.)..what's a "noise floor"?....and why is it bad to run through the onboard pre-amp?

Noise floor is the inherent level of hiss and other junk that you can never get rid of at a given gain setting. Even a single resistor all by itself makes a little noise, and it all adds up. So in my case I have a few preamps worth several times what the whole interface costs, and considerably quieter than the onboard ones. On my old EMU interface using one of those instead of the built in mic preamps typically yielded considerably better results, but it turns out that the Yamaha preamps in the Steinberg are actually quite nice, especially for the price point. So it's only really an issue if you have something noticeably better to use as the front end for tracking.

Yes, I read that Cubase was a pain...but I figured the Steinberg would pair up with Reaper pretty good.

Yep, that should work fine. Cubase actually works quite well once you get used to the workflow, but I'd put my money elsewhere before paying much if anything to upgrade the Cubase version.

I was going to try out the Steinberg UR44, but I needed more inputs (7) for my rig. Looks like a nice unit. It seemed to be geared towards the Ipad, software wise. I'd try one out. L&M (Long & McQuade, for non-Canadians) had them in stock. If they have it in stock, you can buy it, try it out and return it within 30 days for no cost. If they have to order it in, they charge you a re-stocking fee if you return it. I tried out a FocusRite Scarlett and took it back, no prob. I'm like the Short Circuit Robot - Need. More. Input.
I have one though I mainly use it with a mac. Went with the Steinberg because they have very good driver support. Also, its sturdy metal case, and decent bang for the buck. Sounds way better than the m-audio interface I had.
