Steinberger Club

5 strings lack tone compared to their 4 string counterparts, and I always found it easy to knock the adjusting wheel on a DB bridge out of whack...

The TT was a great gismo, and sure got me looks wherever I went!

IDK, I've had a lot of 4, 5, and 6 string Peavey Cirrus and some 4 and 5 string Peavey Millennium basses. Never really found that there was much tonal impact with the number of strings when variables are as consistent as possible.

Really great family! Seems like that XQ5 has EMGs and swamp ash body?? How's the sound compared to your L?

I like it too... specially since the XQ5 has a seldom triangle control config! ;)

@Tjluke, please tell us more about the gear!

I'll be very happy to tell you more about my gear.

Let's start from the XQ5: it has swamp ash body, EMG P5 (Reverse P style coils) pickups and HAZ labs active electronics.
Controls are: master volume, pickups blend and stacked treble/bass.
To my knowledge (but I'm not sure about that), the triangle control config was used in early XQ5 models along with EMG P5 pickups.
An another feature of my XQ5 is that the body is painted with nitro.
About the sound, it is not so different from the XL2, it is very clear and punchy and the HAZ Labs equalizer is very good.

About the XL2, I think is one of the last builded by Gibson before production was ceased.
The neck is thinner than the L2 series, it was builded to perfection, the only complaints I made are about the string jaws: two of them suddenly broke at the same time!!!
Luckily for me, a friend of mine is the manager of one of the largest bass store in Italy and he gave me two original jaws :hyper:

Some time ago I recorded 3 sample for compare the XQ5 and the XL2, for what they are worth...
For each file I recorded in sequence: XQ5 bridge p. - XL2 bridge p. - XQ5 both p. - XL2 both p. - XQ5 neck p. - XL2 neck p.
Active tone of XQ5 are flat.
