Talking piano tone i propose the XQ5A/Moses, this on has a hell of a push there ...I play an XL-2a through a GK amp and Hartke cabs and I feel like I get that good piano like tone.

Good deal, are there 5er also?Looks like a good deal on Link Removed at Imperial Guitar, $19.55 + shipping.
No matter, i've bought 5 sets for 50$ on the bay, this might be a lifetime deal.Nah, I only see the S100S set. I wish they carried more.
Ok, i saw it's got a Moses* neck but the Spirit's hardware is cast, while the XQ got milled parts, probably a nice bass but way overpriced. Being not produced anymore, one could claim a certain rarity but ime not more than 1000$ of worth (*not declaring the type of Moses neck)Yeah, for that money you can get an XL-2 in near mint condition.
I have a very early L2, previously owned by the late, great Dee Murray of the Elton John Band. It can be heard on the "Too Low For Zero" album and its single "I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues".

Anyone flown in the USA recently with an XL2 in a gig bag? Were you able to put it in the overhead bin?
I have a Spirit XT-25 that I got used, and a few sets of strings that the seller had sitting around.
Those were:
DR neon whites (with a string adaptor) (were on it when I bought it)
Steinberger set with low B
Rotosound swing bass with double ball (using right now)
I've been meaning to switch over to using a high C string, I've never messed with the adaptor (it still has the DRs attached to it). I found that Epiphone's website carries the steinbergers with a high C for [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] (18 USD at time of posting), as long as I order a few packs (otherwise the shipping is obscene).
I'm going to swap in the low B steinbergers when I get home and see if they're too light for me / sound bad before I pull the trigger, but what are your thoughts? I mostly see people talking about the Rotos (which I like so far), La Bellas, GHS, and Status, but none of those offer a high C (except status I think, as a 6 set). There's a .30 C Link Removed from rotosound, but I'd rather a .35 to match the set. So I picked up a set of 6 string swing bass strings with normal ends, BUT if I can make the steinberger strings work for me it seems like the perfect solution.
So that was really rambly but what are your opinions of Steinberger's own strings? At minimum they should actually fit my instrument, right?![]()
All Berger tuning/bridge units have a little grub screw on the side to fix them saddles in place, hasn't yours?Update: I think I'm just not too good at setting up my basses, and I got luckier with the RotoSounds when I was setting up. I've just been playing my other basses to avoid dealing with the issue.
But seriously, how do you properly lock the saddles when you change strings? Do they stay in place when you only swap one string at a time? I'll be trying that next.
