All Berger tuning/bridge units have a little grub screw on the side to fix them saddles in place, hasn't yours?

I use it but it doesn't seem to help

What bass model are you talking about? The Ls have two grubs (dunno the XLs), the XL5 Wide and the XQ5 also wide have only one, this may grip into void when saddle piece is shoved out of the scrubs range ... ?

Pretty sure mine is an XT-25. If there's a second one on the other side that's been hiding from me, I'll certainly feel like an idiot

Not really, the 2 grubs on the L are on one side; afaik the Spirits have only one of these ...

Got it meanwhile? As mentioned, on some of the settings on intoning E- or B-string saddle block is gotta be moved out the range of the scrub (on .135 or .95 gauges e.g.). Then the blocks are held through the string's tension, but by losen them ...

The bridge on this bass sure looks different. The jaws seem unlike those found on an L or XL. Are the strings attached to the bridge solely via the ball ends? Like maybe a thin post that goes thru the hollow part of the ball end? Admittedly I've never encountered a transtrem bass in person.

This ball end pin attachment is an interesting design. I wonder why it wasn't implemented on regular bridges?

Although I don't know it, I'd guess it's simply the material and the efforts for manufacturing those. You'd need (milled) steel for this version, and the regular bridges have cast jaws, which are easier to mass produce.

Well, I cannot read the date on the sticker, but the potentiometer code says "week 31 of 1983", which is the first week of August. The bass must - of course - have been built later.

This kind of sticker is quite unusual, a dating on 11/21/79? (other than this is not to spot) would make no sense then ...
