Steinberger Value??

Does anyone know the current blue book value for a vintage Steinberger?
I have a near mint 1985 XL-2A that I'm trying to figure out the value of.

Don't have the blue book value but... check out Ebay ended sales to see what similar instruments have sold for. Also, check out www.steinbergerworld.com which is a great site for all things steinberger.

Agree with slowgypsy. Post a for sale on the Steinberger Yahoo group. On ebay the values go in cycles a bit in my opinion. I paid just over a grand for mine about 2 years back, but I've seen some hit $US1900. Depends on the week and who's around to bid. I use mine all the time, and couldn't see me not playing it. I sold one once before and regretted it mightily. Please make sure for yourself before it goes out the door.

Depending on the wear and where it was made (Newburgh or Nashville), $1500-2000 is the going rate.

I've noticed that prices have almost doubled since I bought a couple of Steinbergers 5 years ago. I got mine for about $800-$900 a piece - now I could sell just the bridge assembly for that!

I've seen them for sale for 2k. If it's near mint like you said, someone would pay that for it. Don't know the blue book f you are looking for insurance purposes or something.

The general going rate seems to be around 1500-2000+ for a Steinberger in good condition

I was just trying to figure out the value for insurance purposes.

not sure about red, but I saw a black newburgh XL-2A sell for $2300 on ebay a little while back.

ah, well...

A local guitar shop here in Stumptown sold one recently for around $1500.

They can be found for $1500 or less, depending on condition, if the market is not good at the time.

A student of mine got one for $400 about a year ago (I didn't ask how - I realize now that I should have!) and I guess I was naive enough to expect the same luck.

My bass teacher suggests buying aniother XL2A strung BEAD as I love my XL2A so much.

It looks like the perfect travel bass to me - which was one of the points, I'm sure. But I've always been really impressed by their sound, and the flexibility of the electronics. A really practical instrument.

If I could find such a deal, I'd buy at least one more as a backup or just for kicks.

Anyone who sold a halfway-decent L- or XL- series bass for under $1K is a fool. They haven't been made since 1998, and there's nothing else that's really quite the same.
