Sterling Ray4 SUB series quality question

Curious
How heavy was the Ray 24 with the eastern mahogany body? Similar?

Yes, in the same ballpark. The only SBMM outside of that range that I've owned was the ash ray34 @ about 11 lbs.

@Lobster, What body wood was yours? Maybe something out of whack with my scale.

All were the basswood models, though the red poplar HH that I have was about 9 lbs as well (8.8 with the hipshot hardware)

After playing this bass for a couple days I can't believe this is a 300 dollar instrument. The pickup is really hot. Might be a preamp issue but it sounds great and is a fantastic player. I like it much more than the Sterling Stingray Classic I had. Best 180 bucks I ever spent on a guitar.

It's 100% the pickup, the stock ceramic one is a bit spicy. Easy swap though, and there's loads of options out there for you to pick if you'd like to upgrade.

@CletusMarley - did you end up installing the Aguilar AG 4M? Did you have to modify/replace the pickguard or add spacers to complete the installation, or was it a simple drop-in replacement?

It was the AG 4M. I had to add some extra foam but that was it. It fit the pickguard just fine and dropped right in.
