My Sting bass sounds great. The pickup does compress a bit if you are digging in though. Still, it is a nice instrument and super light.

so it means Fender Sting is unique )...that is the only Fender bass that sports a signature inlay.
I have heard that there is somebody on this thread that has had it removed and replaced with a black block.
Contour a '51
That would be me:

Luthier Michael Dolan removed the dreaded "Stinglay".
You can hit him up it you would like him to do the deed.

Then get over it!!!!!
It's a great bass. I bought mine because it's the most alive and resonant solid body instrument I've ever played. I don't look at the neck when I'm playing, and I'll bet that folks watching you play (assuming you ever do actaully gig) won't be looking at the 12th fret either.
Play the flipping instrument, don't look at it.
jte
I've done that to a '51 RI.
I've also installed a '51 RI neck on a Sting body:

Do you mind if I ask how much that cost to have that done?
about how much did it cost you to have the inlay removed...

I assume we (above) are adding the cost of a couple of used basses--a Sting and a '51 RI--to arrive at 1.26k
I think you may be mixing up Supertanker and my solutions.
When it was all said and done my neck swap solution only cost me the price of the used Sting (which was $400 at the time) since I sold the leftover '51 body and Sting neck.

I have a question: Is the poly on these Sting and 51RI necks indestructable? It seems so thick and glossy that it will never, ever, wear naturally. Has anyone made a dent in it through normal wear and tear?
