Stingray 5 30th Anniversary

For those asking about the solid Rosewood neck, I have a Family Reserve SR5 that I bought back in 2009 that came with one. Beautiful neck for sure and a warmer sound than my Teal green SR5 with Maple Neck/Rosewood slab. But I think that might be pre-amp difference, not the neck itself.

I'll try and get better pics later. The lighting wasn't the best. Sorry about the duplicates.

Tried to start a thread about this but probably better to incorporate it in here and reach out to other owners of the 30th...

Got myself a couple of these.

The first was one of the basses EBMM had at NAMM in January, rosewood/birdseye, 10.1 lbs. (Apologies for reusing the photos someone took at NAMM - they're much better than mine!)

The second one I only received a few days ago, maple/flame, 8.9 lbs.

I'm wondering about the actual transparency of the Transparent Buttercream finish here.

On my rosewood bass you can indeed see some of the wood grain shining through. It's subtle - but it's there.

On the maple bass, however, no grain is visible at all - it's like an opaque finish.

I would be interested to hear from other owners of these basses with regards to the finish - solid or see-through?

Another difference between the two instruments is that the belly cutaway on the back of the body is noticeably shallower on the maple bass. I was surprised to see this, considering CNC technology and all - I would have thought that there would hardly be any variations!

What would account for this?

Those NAMM photos are mine--but no problem using them of course!
I cant' answer your question on the bass differences, but maybe EBMM can?
