Stingray 5 30th Anniversary

I emailed EBMM a while back and said that if I placed an order through someone even in December it would get through (probably in February)- not sure if that's because the dealer you place it through hasn't filled out its orders or that there is no limit so take that with a grain of salt.

I just sent an email to EBMM asking for the production number of my SR5 30th and they said they doesn't keep track of the production number based on series number, so I believe there is no limit on the production at least in the quantity.

Pretty rare they doesn't take into account that detail in a special edition.

That's good I guess... I wish I could still order through Sweetwater still but my rep said they are full on backorders so I'll have to pay somewhere else... oh, sweet, sweet interest-less 3 payment plan....

GC will have one available on 15/09

I bought mine on GC at San Francisco they were amazing sent me a lot of detailed pictures before buying online and stored the bass like 3 months as I was travelling from Argentina and didn't want to miss the chance of buying it.

Does GC give you the option for rosewood? It's no on their site and I'd rather not call them at the moment

Anyways, asking again because I'm having a crises of faith: Do I gun for the 30th Anniversary (Sweetwater came back and said I could it would just be very backlogged) or a SR5 Classic? It's hard to find comprehensive demos and these things in the wild... The Guitar World one of the 30th is good but I feel like the tone is too thin for some reason. I could alternatively go for a Ric 4003s and other goodies for that price but I'll only get that if I'm for sure not getting a 30th...

I have not compared the basses.

I do remember reading a review from an owner somewhere that the 30th sounded just like his Ceramic SR5. Makes sense since the pickup is ceramic. Maybe try finding some demos of the older SR5 with ceramics to get a better idea of what it may sound like?

If still unsure, I'd grab the 30th anniversary while you can. Believe they said the production is limited to this year. (but then again... could only be for that particular flame/binding/body color and they may offer it next year with the pickup/preamp as more of a standard model)

You could always get a classic later if you find that is more what you like. Classics have been offered for a few years so more should show up on the used market than the 30th.

The difference to my ears after playing the 30th and standard SR5......The preamp in the 30th is a bit "less harsh" .... it's more difficult to get "clanky" tones...Fine by me.....Never liked that aspect of the standard preamp......But I have a Sterling 5, ceramic pu's....and the SR 5 doesn't sound like it.......Complicated....lol!

Hahah... so would you guys say it’s closer to the classic 2-band politeness than any other SR? I’m not a huge fan of the SR clank (Ric/Jazz clank? Hell yeah! SR clank hurts my ears :( )
Yes....thats right...Closer to the 2 band eq, with the advantage of a midrange control, which I find very useful....You can get plenty of hi end if you want without the clank.....Seems like the treble control effects a higher range of treble that has less clankyness.....I saw in a MM video, that the idea was to have a preamp that would sound good, even when eq was dimed.....Don't think you'd wsnt to do that, but that was the idea.....Hope that helps...
