Stingray 5 30th Anniversary

New Stingray player here. I have a roasted maple w/lacquer classic 4 and wondering if a tone similar to it can be dialed in on this new 5. I played one at GC, but it was too noisy to really hear. Felt great, though. Would love to hear opinions.

Which SR5 are you referring to? If its a standard SR5 or the 30th anniversary model.....blade switch to the rear.....cut the mids on the bass.....adjust treble and bass as needed.....This should get you there......On my 30th, blade to the front give a more midrange growl with less highs.....The middke position is a single coil sound....Thinner, more highs.....I like the blade to the rear which uses the 2 pu coils in parallel......Lots of nuances in there.......

Gotta love that decent gap on the bass side of the neck joint. Yet again, another instance when I don't get the "stellar build quality" that people hype up so much with MM. I've only seen two good ones (no gaps, straight necks, lined-up strings over fretboard and poles), and the rest had build flaws to really make me question their price tags.

The craziest example, was when I bought a PDN Bongo 6, in the Neptune Blue finish, from Bass Central. The neck wasn't straight, and action was too high for having bottomed-out saddles. This is preference next, as the fretboard was like an aircraft carrier. I compared it to my Peavey G-V at the time, and the Bongo got annihilated in just about every category. Bongo was $2200-2300, and the Peavey was bought for $600.

I want to like MM, but they keep bombing with my experiences (which are a lot).
