Interestingly and I don't know if any others would agree, is that to my ears my G&L L-2500 is even more aggressive than my ceramic pup'd SR5HH!!
I don’t disagree, G&L pickups are WHITE HOT, but a different flavor, a yummy and delicious flavor though. My preference for an SR5 over a G&L is mostly aesthetic, sonically I think they’re both fantastic.

Perhaps it's a certain low end presence that I don't hear in the G&L. I also agree it's not a night and day thing and in my newbie live experience it's even more subtle.But back to discussing Stingray 5s that we all know and love, I would take the tone of my SR5HH always!

My first 5 string bass was a (1996) Stingray 5. It instantly fired my enthusiasm for all things 5 string. ps Correction, I bought it in 1996, it was a 1989 bass.

I know this is a SR5 thread but those singl H Bongos have some magic to them. Love the Big Al too! The maple board Stingray is really a beautiful bass. Glad you’re holding onto it! No needs go unmet with that collection for sure.

that’s absolutely true! In my old cover band I typically gigged a ‘99 Stingray 5 (that bass was really excellent - sold it in a violent fit of gas and would like to find one with similar qualities some day), and after the band broke up I decided to bring out my bongo 4HH (also sold since) for a “reunion” show a year later. Easy on the shoulder, and with my former Streamliner rig, hit hard in all the right places.
What model is that? Judging by the pickup it´s an early model but the five controls instead of the regular four controls got me confused. Changed the preamp?
