Stingray HH players - favorite pickup switch settings?

For those who've owned/played a Stingray HH model, which is your favorite pickup switch position(s)?

I use Position #5 similarly on my 2007 as well, just with less bass cut (just a little, close to flat) and less mid boost. But same basic idea.

If I'm using my pedal board on a given gig, I also like Position #5 with a mid gain OD and some added treble for some of our louder rock songs and more contemporary blues songs (my Broughton SV-Pre and my JPTR FX Jive do a great job for that kind of sound).

There are in-between settings of that switch too. I don't remember what they do, and no longer own that bass.

They aren't as quickly/securely selected, but I thought I would listen to them and if I preferred one could wire that up, but never got around to it (and didn't want to mod it).

Well, that's what I get for being in a hurry. Yes, inner coils is position #4. The one I don't particularly care for. If I split the coils, position #2 - outer coils - is the one I use... This is one of the reasons I avoided active basses for so long. my '78 P-Bass is sooo much easier to keep track of...:rolleyes:

What with one thing and another, it took me a year between the last post and this one, to bring my 4HH Stingray Special out in rotation, to play the snot out of for a month. Several basses with new flats - that needed breaking in - got in the way of the normal "3 basses/month" rotation schedule. In any case; it's up in the living room this month, and I've been fooling around, re-evaluating the pickup selections. I still don't much care for position #1; it just seems too much like a single pickup Stingray. And, I never really liked the sound of those basses... Still don't much like position #4, either. TBH, it just seems like something they did - just because they could. To my ears, anyway... However; been messing around with position #5 quite a bit. There's a fair amount of music I play, that sounds good played with a humbucker in the neck position. Really old "Vintage" Rock, for instance - the kind I like to play. With 26 other basses in my herd, I have basses that play that kind of music very well. And, they would probably be my first choice, if I decided to play that stuff for a couple of hours. But, if I decide to play that stuff for a song or 3, in the course of practicing/fooling around for an afternoon? With the strings the 4HH wears (Galli Jazz Flats), and with a little fiddling with tone settings? Yeah, I think I'll have to add position #5 to numbers 2 and 3 as my favorites...:cool:

#2 sounds like a cross between a Rick and Jazz with both pickups wide open. I swapped in another pre to sidestep the shunt resistors, hpf, and darkening caps EB put on the different coil positions. The 3eq is mainly a rock/ pop preamp. I’d still have it if I could bypass the main filters. I enjoy the restored Hi- Fi, 2-band sound.
