Stingray Special vs. Yamaha BBP34 video

I’ll always prefer the StingRay , but I must admit the Yamaha BB always sound good, just different .
I always will prefer a Stingray slap or pluck tone over a PJ, but that Yamaha sounds fine slapped or plucked and the finger or pick tones are even to my ears.
I think the Yamaha BB really shines with pick play.
To me, the Stingray sounded Ok for the slap but both Yamaha options sounded far more musical for everything else.
I voted for the StingRay, but surprisingly I liked the sound of the Yamaha with both pickups, and I typically don't like PJs. Both are good-sounding basses!

I thought @Vanheusen77 sounded very good, again, in this video.
If you play the Yamaha in context where having a P-style pickup makes a difference, then the Ray will loose.
However, try to play some of the Chic’s classics with a P (some of them were actually recorded using a P however) and you’ll discover where the Ray wins.
There’s no winner here .. carrots for me but this option is not available ..
That video mostly proves that it doesn't matter. OP's playing is rock solid and both basses sound good.

Interesting because I voted for the BBP with both pickups, but I never use the J pickup on my own. The StingRay is a fine sounding instrument, but I like more control than it offers.
Bonus points for including a pick and limiting the slap

How do you define control? When it comes to tone shaping, The two or three band eq provides lots of options.

As far as PJ tone goes, the YAMAHA is one of the best sounding ones I've heard. The Ray sounds like well, a Ray and it sits so nice in the mix. I really like them both.
