Stone/Doom Bassists Thread Part 39: Flip Flops & Zubaz!

No worries! Chicks and doom don't seem to be a popular combo never mind one who plays and is into gear. Laz - I'm really the first here? Cool. Indeed, this thread is not like the internet. The people here are actually people, not trolls. Also, I promise never to post about shoes. :)

JoeV - boo urns to Carvin. Warmoth it is.

Fun shotgun factoids abound up in here.

Doom stuff - Eagle Twin is crushing me right now.

Well I think Kozmik has a worldwide exclusivity agreement. Why else would you only be able to buy the vinyl of an unsigned band (from Lancaster, PA) from Germany?

Don't know why you would even do that, unless you absolutely just cannot pay the costs to have vinyl made up front. The company Sam linked me that they used for Monobrow had incredibly reasonable prices. High chance we'll use them when we do a full length.

I just posted about shoes in the effects forum.

I hope you listen to Akris, Dark Castle, Salome, etc. Plenty of female badassery!

I'm pretty sure you are the first. Gender doesn't make a damn of a difference to us here. Bands like Kylesa, Backwoods Payback, Acid King, Witch Mountain, Blood Ceremony, and I'm sure lots others are prime examples that the girls can play with the boys.

However girl drummers seem REALLY uncommon. There's a killer local sludge metal band called Vulture that has a female drummer and she absolutely slays.

Grey is a pretty great doom metal band with ladies. I don't know if AJ has ever posted here before, but she used to post on stonerrock.com all the time and is a very cool person. I think she used to run Gibson basses through a 300T into a 2x15, which would be popular with a lot of people here. 13 was a really cool female centric doom/sludge band as well, but it's pretty difficult to find any of there music.

Most of us are more cave/mountain troll than internet troll.

If Carvin would give up the ghost and finally offer a Precision pickup option...I would sell all my basses and guitars short of my Drake Custom and go all Carvin.

DeadByDawn, does your band have a Bandcamp or Soundcloud page or something?

http://deadlanguages.bandcamp.com The songs on there are old, though. I'll put some of out new ones on Soundcloud after finals. We cover an Agnostic Front song too. It's just so much fun to play. :hyper:

female drummer/vox, i really enjoy them - sound way better live.

13 is great. I managed to find their discography and will share if anyone wants it. Yes, girl drummers are rare in general. The one from the Lenny Kravits band is sick. Does Vulture have any links to check out? Bottom is more all chicklet doom, too bad they are toast. Liz was in Sourvein before the EW move. Oh, the drummer from Earth is girl! I want to start a drone band. Hex era Earth, like country drone.

The effects forum is for shoes? Nice ;)

Cool, sounds good. Looking forward to hearing the new stuff. I can fulfill most of my new heavy music needs just by listening to everyone's bands here.

When I went to go sell my SVT-CL earlier this week, my wife came along and we went out to dinner at a great little Italian place afterwards. On the way home I asked her to pick out some music from my ipod and she put on MONOBROW. She didn't ask if she could change it after a few songs...which is high praise.

I looooove Bottom, I wish they were still together. Feels So Good When You're Gone is one of my favorite albums. They were from SF, which is only 2 hours away and I never saw them live. So many good bands from the bay area that I've never seen though. At least I can say I've seen Acid King.

The new stuff is much more drone. MONOBROW - good stuff. I'm digging instrumental bands right now. There is so much good music in here.

It's weird, I see way more women at doom shows than at any other metal show, but still not that many actually on stage.

Hopefully that's changing, though.

As for posting about shoes... I think we were talking about sandals on the last thread.

Here's Vulture's most recent release: http://vulturedoom.bandcamp.com/

Electric Wizard cover:

new zealand, i am playing a show with them next saturday.

my band is Stone the Crows - note the blank bandcamp, demo will be up some time today. we got drunk and recorded a practice onto a zoom handheld. for instrumental stoner rock, that's a demo!

Have fun at the gig. Zoom mic demo , hehe.

Corey - Yeah, I got into Bottom after they already split. Is Billy Anderson from SF? I dig most of the stuff he's had a hand in recording.

Laudanum has a female drummer. I think her name is Becky. They're awesome and ridiculously loud, live.
