Anyone have any thoughts on non-traditional shows or venues?

I'm trying to think of some places or types of shows that are more than just the usual bar gigs, since those aren't very effective at drawing in an audience in my area. One of the things I'm thinking of is having a showing of an old Hammer horror film, followed by a short set from one or two bands. It seems like a way to try to cross pollinate with some other arts or scenes to bring in people in who wouldn't show up at 11 pm on a weeknight to check out a show at a local originals bar.

Another thought I had was trying to put together an early bird show that starts at 7 or 8 instead f 10 like most local shows do. Or maybe even "metal church" shows at noon on a Sunday.

All I know is that I don't want to play shows to a few of my friends and the other bands playing that night. Thoughts?

Hit up breweries. We played two. Damn good time. Stupid amount of free beer.

Played roller derby events. We tell people we'll play anywhere. Trying to line up a gig at a burlesque show. They want us to do covers…

Oh! One of the best was a party in a barn in bfe. Man we CRANKED it.

Lolita Black is girl fronted and has a girl drummer (Local friends that kill it but more metal than anything else) There is actually a lot of girls in the music scene around here.

Have you played down in Providence before? The name of your band sounds familiar.

Warehouse shows. Find the noise bands in your area and get tight with them. There is a lot of cross over shows and stuff. I've either been to or played warehouse shows with Jucifer, Indian, Queen Elephantine, Lightning Bolt, Black Pus, etc.

Pretty cool, usually a decent turnout, everyone is pretty cool even though sometimes it feels like a high school party because of the young kids. Hope you don't mind playing after the bars close though. They usually run on a different time schedule. You can easily do a double booked night (play a legit place then scoot over there and play the after parties)

Queen Elephantine! Love those guys I've played a couple shows with them down here. I love their use of a drone box, and completely clean guitars.

Yeah man. I'm good friends with Indy. They just finished up recording some new stuff, should be out soon. Played a basement show up in Boston with them where they had a sitar and some other players for the drone stuff. Badass. Olde Growth and Elder also played. Good times, except we played without drums. Two bass drone set.

Damn that sounds like a killer time! I gotta make it up yours and nicks way sometime next year. Hopefully have a new project starting up that I'd love to take to more noise type shows and less bars.

We played a show just before Halloween at a thrift store. One of the local metal bands booked it for an all day"metal fest".

Even have some video. Not Doomy but...

Wish I had brought my big cabs to this show, this was the one they said we would have PA. And didn't.

Yeah I always have an open invite for any of you guys that wanna come up this way. Try to set something up show wise or go check out a show. I've got room to crash and there is some pretty cool places to check out (record shops, restaurants, etc) The warehouse stuff got cut back a lot this year but it's still going on just not in the volume it was for a while. About every 4-5 years something happens or the city tries to shut it down but it just gets shuffled around. Being a total underground thing it gets to be a pain sometimes. Find out about a show somewhere then you have to hunt down where it is." Hey we're playing tonight at P.R. Hex" ok cool where is it? "It's the old Sweatshop" Everything just gets reopened under a different nickname (they all get named something) The best was the old Pink Rabbit. I saw Lightning Bolt play a Halloween show there about 10-12 years ago. Fvcking insane. Probably close to 800 people. Here is a vid
