I've seen the Iommis for a bit less than that, but yeah, they're expensive. The only reason I have a guitar with them is because they came stock in the Epiphone version of the Iommi sig.

I love the Duncan Distortion, though. It does have a sort of raspy quality that I like but my guitarist doesn't.

If you don't like the Tone Zone, and the X2N is merely okay, I'd sell those and get something you'd like better.

edit: ^^laz i have been thinking about doing the same thing. they were fine on my 4001, but as the humidity increases they're not holding as well as they should - i have to tune every 2-3 songs as they go a little bit off. not hugely noticeable until a drone part, but obviously it is important for that to sound as solid as possible.

i set up my rick yesterday. **** whoever designed that bridge, jesus christ, i never want to do the intonation ever again. my neck is still straight so happy about that, didn't need to touch the truss rods.

speaking of hollowbody basses earlier in the thread, i believe this is an epiphone rivoli righteously pounded through some tubes. i am pretty sure this is one of the only other tones i want in my repertoire, aside from a mudbucker equipped bass like an eb-*.

Yeah I've never had "bad" tuners before, but I'm pretty sure these are very worn with use and could stand to be replaced.

How did you end up adjusting the intonation?? I had a shop set mine up. The only logical process I could come up with is loosening all the strings and pulling the saddle bar out, adjusting the saddle position, then putting it back on and tightening the strings back up. Which means you could end up having to do that close to 20 times if your intonation is off lol. I was going to swap mine with a Hipshot, but ampegfuzz basically convinced me it wasn't really worth it.

Haha, nice. After reading some reviews on the LACE Dirty Hesher Matt Pike Signature's I just might for for those. But do I put them in the Les Paul like Matt Pike, or put them in the more aggressive looking V. hmmmm

You're right. If I don't really like them, I should move them. I think I'll sell them and get the LACE Dirty Heshers. Would be cool to try something new and unusual, and I obviously dig Matt Pike. Apparently PALLBEARER plays Lace of some sort too.

Test fitting before drilling and putting it together.

Gotta drill a couple holes, trim a few things, stop at the hardware store to pick up some screws, figure out a bottom plate and shes ready to go. I think it'll turn out really cool.

Will also have a new pedalboard by the end of the night.

If I end up with an open spot on my board I throw on an old whiskey tin I put picks and misc stuff in or my light up easy button. People think its a real pedal. I tell them its for solos (that I never do).

it was a real son of a bitch.

tune all the strings up (after setting the right saddle height), get open to perfect tuning, test the octave on the twelfth fret and note how far it is off pitch.

detune the strings, pop out that stupid little floating bridge part, ESTIMATE HOW FAR YOU NEED TO TURN IT, put it back in, tune the strings back up, hope to hell you get it right the first time.

rinse, repeat, stab yourself in the eye with a tiny imperial allen key. which by the way, was really ****ing hard to find in a metric-based country!

i'm now comfortable setting up the string heights and intonation, but i still am not confident with any of the electronics or truss rods. maybe i'd attempt it with a 4003, but with a 4001 i can't bring myself to touch them. my neck was still straight as an arrow from the previous (paid) setup i did, though.

What year's your Ric? I have the schallers they come with now on mine.

The saddles of the hipshot I have on my copy wobble like crazy. The ones on the hipshot I have on my actual Ric have stayed put. Maybe the dude who restored it did something to them to make them stay that way.

That's kind of a tricky question. It is an '85, but it was also assembled with parts from the remaining 4001 parts (it has a 4001 truss rod, not sure what else is 4001 about it).

I can take a close up pic when I get home. I've never looked at them real close, but their inability to stay where I set them is getting annoying.
