Well the B7K has the 4 band eq which is where I was getting the low end. I would have hated the B3K because the EQ was totally key to getting the tones I did like out of the pedal.

It just doesn't have enough gain on tap for my tastes, overall just a little too modern sounding I guess would be the best way to put it.

well the B3K certainly doesn't add any lows or lose any lows but i think it is the scooped nature that makes it sound thin. if you are using it with a bass and/or amp that also has some scoop it may compound the effect. I use it on the raw setting with the blend set to 65%-70% dirty.

I considered the B7K because of the added EQ but i can't justify that kind of cost. The reason I am keeping the B3K for now is that it is the exact opposite of everything I own and is nothing like the tone I would normally go for, which for me makes it a good tool to have.

some of the clips i posted a few days ago are just the B3K.

I don't remember which bass this was, but this is tuned half a step down. The slower part I add the Bluebeard on top of the B3K.

This is what I would consider more "my tone". The B3K gives me a whole new/nu dimension....this is the downtuned Jazz again.

Sam I totally get what you're saying with the B3/7K. It really is like no other pedal that I have, which is good. Also as a preamp/DI it has every feature I could want. So that makes me tempted to keep it (especially having recording and overseas shows on the horizon). I actually got a really good deal on the B7K with a cyber Monday sale, so I pulled the trigger.

Who knows maybe ill just keep it around as a nice utility tool for whatever I may end up needing in the future.

I'm actually curious to hear how it sounds once we hit the studio again. just hope that my GAS holds off long enough so I don't end up selling it before then :)

Haha I get that completely. I have a good amount of debt and selling it would make a nice little dent, but at the same time it seems like it could be something that could really be useful down the road even if it isn't something I use on my board/setup every day.

He is a small time pedal maker from Cali. He only sells on etsy and through his blog. Pretty cool stuff though.

Dunwich, sexy.

Btw, I tried a simple experiment tonight. I ran my Zoom B3 which has an attenuation pad switch on it into my other pedals. Switched it from passive to active and tried my Sterling Sub through it into the fuzz. I was getting some gain issues going into the fuzz before but it appears to clean it up. Sounded smooth again. After much searching, I think a simple passive DI with a pad switch might do the job to make it play better with fuzzes, putting that first in the chain. Going to order a cheapo one and test it, if it works, awesome.

thanks man. so i simplified the preamp down, EQ is now a bax, then there is volume and output gain. I added an FX loop which is controlled via that stomp. This is like a on your pedal board preamp to drive power amps. Runs at ~70V
