Sucks to deal with that, but you're better off doing it now. It would lame to deal with a flakey dude when you have shows lined up.

That sucks Jason, hopefully it becomes an opportunity to find something even better though. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there.
I wish I lived near anyone who's struggling to put a band together from this thread. Even though bass is my love, I'd gladly play guitar or sing for a band, just to be able to actually do something. Instead of just being in bands that are seemingly only theoretical, with very little to prove they actually exist in the real world.

Two bass players responded to my first Doom craigslist ad. Both wanted to play guitar for it.
One guy said if we screamed the lyrics, girls wouldn't come to our show. Well, let's just say I don't remember that guy's name.
Jasohall, if the guitar player isn't getting down, try just jamming with the drummer til you find the right guitar player. Or practice your taps and hamer-ons/offs and go OM style.
Went to their FB site to do this, saw first link was a solo performance by linkin park bassist, closed tab. haha.
well I stand corrected then. Guess the only ones I've ever seriously looked at were 6550/KT88 or EL34.

Shvt man sorry to hear that. My previous sort of stonerish band pretty well exploded due to some internal girlfriend shenanigans drama.
Drummer's girlfriend broke up with him she was the bass player and I came in and replaced her. Then one of the guitarists started jamming with her on the side. Drummer found out about it and went ballistic...he seriously wanted to lay a pounding on the dude. And that was all she wrote for that band. Really sucked for me cause I was just getting into it and everyone in the band was really talented. Songs were pretty decent too.
That's why I want to do a duo or trio at most. Less chance for drama as opposed to being five people in a band.
That was my idea with a 3 piece. The less people involved, less chance of problems/drama/people getting sick. Helps that the drummer and I knew each other already.

Sorry to hear about that. ^ this is what I would do.
I have my own solo project that I eventually want to do something with, I dont write to many songs so its slow going. For now I've been calling it The Great White North. I've had a clip with a friend on didgeridoo up on soundcloud for a while. I got to play it with my drummer for VEGA, one time while my guitar player was in the bathroom, that really showed some promise in it. I have one other song partly written, that's all I have to show for in months.

Sounds really good, lots of potential to make it sound killer fleshed out with drums and the right tones. A little long for my attention span, but with drums and vocals it might be a different story. I have to be in the mood for really long songs.
That's every band I try to start. Every band I've ever been in that got anything substantial done was a power trio. Sometimes you just need more than that to do what you want musically though. The music I'm writing now needs two guitars, I've been in bands where a trio with a separate singer was really crucial for energy we wanted in a live performance, but the fewest amount of people to get the job done is best IMO.
This is why I want an old analog drum machine that I'll play through its own stack.
I have thought a few times about if Mental Waste ever got a show offer too good to pass up, if we would just run our drum tracks through a PA or actually find a drummer and practice with them to do it. I could download my SD2.0 onto a laptop, but it would be even easier to just render the drum tracks to a high res mp3 and just make an ipod playlist or something. Seeing as how ipods crash a lot less frequently than laptops running sophisticated programs. It's never come up beyond idle conversation so far though.
