I do like the El Raton(Alpha Dog) on bass it is usable without a bass blend, like hard to explain not an excessive low end loss like some guitar distrotion pedals do, but would still like a bit more bass. It has the Vintage Rat and the Turbo Rat setting, I get a bit more low end with the Turbo Rat setting. SInce I do play guitar I think even if I fall in love with the El Oso for bass distortion I will probalby keep the VFE. So the big test if for the modded ODB-3, which definitely keeps the lows and mids.

I'm totally "Lost" in this thread.. Haven't been keeping up at all.

That Eb-3 didn't work out. Evidently I could pick it up, but not come play it first, and he wouldn't flex on price even though there's one on GCused for $139. His loss.

My first 'real' bass was a Gibson G3...awesome for the grindy stuff...it died in a car crash and I replaced it with a Ripper...have owned a few Grabbers over the years. Overall, the Ripper is my favorite sounding, though there's nothing quite like a G3

I'm workin on a 70's aria ripper clone and its pretty quiet. I was trying to see if I had different wiring options to maybe squeak some more juice out. It meters a little less then the Seymour clone (that's 7.2k),

Bridge- 6.86
Both- 3.47
Neck- 6.96

I also had the varitone removed some time back and a 3 way toggle installed. I was wondering if their is some series parallel thing I can do to make it sound fuller and possibly meaner.

If it just is what it is then so be it but its pretty tame and very unlike rippers I have played before. I realize its a clone but I figured it wouldn't be this quiet.

I want to like those EB-3 as I love the look but everytime I play a mudbucker I hate that tone, as much as I am low fi, there almost seems to be a point where a pickup can get too close to the neck, but maybe it is just the design of that pickup.

I nearly got an Aria Ripper clone a couple years back...

Ideally they should have that nice bark to them

I've always thought of either getting one, or having a luthier do a similar pickup config. When I played G3's I always used the 'buck and a half' setting...beautiful

Thanks for the kind words. I use G-Lab Bass Wowee Wah... In that song it comes after Stache - the first time, and with the clean tone - in repeat and in outro.

Got an email from someone looking for a doom/sludge bass player. Might meet up for a jam and see what shakes out. Who here's in multiple bands? Do you still have time for other stuff? Summer's coming up and I NEED to spend a lot of time outdoors fishing/camping/hiking/gardening. I don't want to jerk these guys around but I wouldn't mind playing in second band.

I guess the question is would it work as well on anything other than those Bill Lawrence pickups? I've often wondered if Fralin jazz type 5% overwounds or possibly 10% overwounds wired the same way would get something similar?

Man I remember living in PA and those long winters, I didn't want anything to spoil those awesome but short Northern summers. I give you guys credit, life is so busy I would have a hard to time commiting to one band. Heck I hardly even make to the occasional buddy jam sessions.
