Dream Theater annoy me sometimes, because they could write songs I really like except that they always feel the need to wander off into noodling that bores me. For instance, the song "In the Name of God." Cool beginning, cool ending... weird, distracting, and in my opinion, pointless wanky middle section.

Always liked Sabbath more than Zeppelin. Just personal taste.

I'm in multiple bands. Clearly I have enough time for talkbass, so yeah, I have time for other stuff.

Oh yeah, regarding the multiple bands thing. I'm doing it now and I've done it in the past as well. It's doable if not all the bands are really intense with gigging. Every time I've been in more than one band and one of them starts gigging regularly or touring, I end up having to drop the other or make a choice about to which I want to be dedicated. I can pull off being in 3 bands now because one is a recording only project and the other two practice once a week at best and neither have gigged within the last year.

The guys that emailed me are pretty driven, have songs written and are wanting to gig and record. I told them I'm show up for a jam and see what happens. I might try to find them a bass player, they live in a smaller town 1/2 hour south of here that's pretty lame and has to scene to speak of. I know there's plenty of people in Madison that could fill the slot.

I don't think I want to give up any more summer fun time. There's so much outside daytime drinking to do...

+1 I remember how cool it was one year ago - to be in 3 bands, when only one is gigging. And now, when all 3 are gigging and I joined the special fourth band that are my wife & my 1year old daughter, things get tougher & tougher :D

Man, I know I mentioned the weezer show earlier in the thread, but thanks Sam for posting that. I just rewatched some of it, it was so damn hot and people kept hitting me in the face with my mic, but getting to play Susanne and the rest of those songs was one of the most fun things I've done in a band.

Also the end of Tired of Sex is the best pop punk breakdown. So good.

Also I've done the multiple band thing, most of my musical career.

It's fun. I realize now that 2 is a good number for me, I can't tour full time so it's more of random gigs usually once a month, and the occasional week tour. But if I don't practice with a band at least once I week, I get really antsy and agitated. There was a brief time (about 6 months) when I was 18/19 when I wasn't in a band and it made me super depressed.
