Stoner/Doom Bassist Thread Part 6

So hey, guess what... I was able to talk my wife into letting me get a bass. The only issue is going to be budget. Can anyone think of some light stuff around the $400 range? I got plans tomorrow to check out a few places around town, but selection around here is very limited. I might need to go to the for sale section here. But almost no one posts weight here, which sucks.

All info welcomed.

Ibbys are light..(not the old ones) and can be gotten cheapish, musicman SUBs, .....you could go reeaally light and get one of those headless little things.

Ooh..ooh....I know... A guild pilot. Fez from admiral plays one.. Sounds GREAT!!! Its light, and you can get em for under 4 bills.

One more thing, I'd prefer passive to active based on my experience with a really nice German Warwick that felt beautiful but sounded less than desireable.

SDGR ibbys, I'm assuming?
Also the few results from google shows the pilots at over $450. But thanks for the suggestions. I am going to a place that will more than likely have newer ibanez offerings tomorrow afternoon. I'll keep them on my short list.

I've got a de armond pilot deluxe that I picked up for $300 about ten years ago. It was my first bass; it's got active electronics though.

Take a look at some Schecters maybe?

Thank you. I did plan on hitting up guitar denter soonish. They are the only place I can think of around here with more than just fender and ibanez. So yeah, keep the ideas coming and thank you so far for allowing me to make this thread about me, sometimes. ;) I kinda just plan on going to the handful of shops around here and I am going to try everything they got in my weight range. I just didn't have any luck with what should have been one of the best active basses made (warwick). I will try to keep an open mind though. And who knows, maybe I will find an active bass that calls my name. or not.

Thats what I meant! de armond...I always think guild for some reason.

Theres a black one on Ebay for 295.00 . If ya search."dearmond bass" youll find it!

The original Pilot was made by Guild. De Armond then made some after they were both purchased by Fender.

I like mine; the Deluxe has a 35" scale. I believe the normal models don't have active electronics.

Fez is a monster and has great tone. Definitely worth checking out.

While companies like Rickenbacker and Gibson are having serious QC issues I think modern production Ibanezes are fantastic. The SRs are active. I can't remember if the SRXs are active but they have some music man like Ibanez humbuckers that sound sweet. Neck thru SRX used can be had for like $300.

Aren't there some old Peaveys that are light? Obviously not the T40s but other models. Also how heavy are the current Squires? They seem like awesome basses. Also EB0/EB3 and copies of them although can't remember if they're short scale.

You could go full on gay and get a Danelectro.
