Stoner/Doom Bassist Thread Part 8 - Insert witty title...

couple of the really cool things about it are that it is switchable from 100 Watts to 25 to silent/recording, it does 2, 4 or 8ohms, AND the autobias circuit allows for variable tube settings from hot, to normal to cool and about three different degrees between each so you can go anywhere from mellow tube tone to hot and supergained settings which is really cool!

Ampegfuzz: you dont like my demo videos?

Everyone is using clean bass!! I feel betrayed, I'll never go back to the clean side. Here's an awesome little bass jam, Dirty of course lol

Fretless P bass FTW!!!!!!:bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist:

Also christpncher, once my band is done with our album we would like to hit the summer full force as well. We're based out of Milwaukee.

And I still want to throw that Dec 21 Doomsday gig...

Except the tube amps need to be attached to a speaker if they are on....I think about it.

It, at this point, would be a fender 300 pro vs fender 100t vs Sunn 1200s vs magma vs JGR pre vs Ashdown rpm....somthin's gotta go soon......and some cabs too! Argh!

Corey, eyeball, I don't know what happened but I think I butt dialed the forum. I have no recollection of posting that and thought it was someone else to you called me out. Hell yes, demos of the dirty channel!!! And some direct demos uploaded to soundcloud ;) I.E. the dirt direct.

I dont have the means to record direct at the moment..so far im not totally in love with the dirty channel like I am on the 300 pro...its cool and HEAVILY tweakable, but I think im gonna drop a different PREAMP tube in it. Fender uses groove tubes and ive never liked the fat choked gain they do.. I bet with a $13 tube replacement ill love it!
Dont get me wrong...its a very cool part of the amp, its just not voiced to the perfection that I think the 300 is....the cool thing is you can get a good power section distortion on this amp on the clean channel by diming things up....

No joke. When can I come and hear that head? It's been on my list.

What do you normally use for your pre tubes?

I'm a huge rye fan. Bulleit Rye is my favorite cheap accessible rye, but when I'm willing to shell out some money High West is where it's at.

I usually just go for more or less expensive versions of Weiser's, depending on the state of my bank account, and depending on if I'm mixing with coke or drinking it on the rocks. Gibson's is also pretty big up here too.

White Owl is also very delicious, and is my favorite sipping rye at the moment. It's also crystal clear like vodka, which is neat.

I dont have a go to brand for preamp tubes cos im more of a "which one sounds best in this particular amp" kinda guy...I found that some amps have very little perceivable difference no matter what the tube, and some are night and day, and some tubes that sound great in one circuit sound kinda blah in others.....that said, it seems that more often than not I end up with either a JJ's, or an EHX. I dont do NOS $100 tubes or anything. Ive got a gold pin JJ in one thing and even an old mesa in something I think, but groove tubes just feel like its all mid fat with no definiton to me.

I hate amp shopping cuz its always the one big mystery that you won't know really how it sounds til you lug it to practice and play with your band. I'd question the value of putting all the effort into an amp shootout, only to have it compressed down by YouTube and have them all sound pretty much like bass amps. If you could do a hi-fi audio recording comparison, that would be pretty awesome...
