Stoner/Doom Bassist Thread Part 8 - Insert witty title...

After a long night of asking myself what I want to do gear wise I have realized that I have not been happy with my gear because I was trying to create a sound that was not me. I spent the last 5 years playing clean with flats and I’ve switched to rounds and dirt boxes because I felt I needed that for a metal band. I have decided that I will not use dirt to hide my sloppy playing and I’m going to put flats back on. I doubt the band would even notice a difference. I may get a decent compressor to keep the levels consistent but I think I’m going to move away from dirt pedals.

What sucks about this is that I just finished designing a distortion box I was really happy with. I plan to still have some nice dirt boxes in my arsenal but once I started thinking about going back to flats and playing clean I smiled and got really excited about practice next week. I tried to explain this all to my wife and she just thought I was super lame.

I was going to take the flats off my white Ric for a min. Then i took out a P bass to the next gig, it had rounds, and i played with the tone rolled off almost the whole night. When i realized 95% of the night it killed and sat well in the mix no brainer, flats stay. It's nothing a couple peds cant fix for the other 5%.

hey im a new guy to this thread, have been loosely following for a while now but damn these threads move so fast its hard to keep up!!

i wanted bring up a topic that was being discussed several pages back...

Does anyone have any experience/knowledge of a venue in Grand Rapids, MI called Mulligans? im looking at you Jason!, heh heh

I play bass in a doom band here in Chicago and we had a gig scheduled at The Pyramid Scheme but it got cancelled and now were playing at Mulligans instead on Sat, June 2.

anyone play there or see a show there that could give me a heads up on what its like? sounds like Pyramid Scheme may have been a better venue choice for us.

BTW if anyone is interested in checking out the band i can post a link but really more interested in hearing about venues, not posting just for self-promotion. lol

i play a Schecter Elite 5 into an '87 "skunkworks" SVT by way of a Tech 21 VT Bass pedal if anyone is interested. (appears you guys are gearheads like me)

cheers and keep it low and slow!!

Welcome, be loud and proud, link away! And don't worry, this tread can be used as a DIY promotion and information tool.
