Stoner/Doom Bassist Thread Part 8 - Insert witty title...

Should i need to run the SVT-300 full out then? I honestly haven't tried that.

eyeball - That's similar to settings I've used but past 3 o'clock on the master I start getting hiss? I assume you're not getting this then?

I really doubt you have to run it all out. It sounds like you just haven't mastered the controls yet. The sample page on the Monolith website has all settings with nothing below 3 (1-10) other than the Master. There is a huge volume difference between having the drive at say 11:00 and 2:00. What type of settings are you running on the channels? You may need to turn up the drive, bass, mid, treble, level, master, etc. It gets pretty quiet when they are below noon.

Guy wants $90 just to look over the amp and clean the pots and stuff. Doesn't that seem a little steep? Maybe I'm just spoiled by the guy I used to use in Baltimore... He said $60 bench fee but the SVT is the exception to the rule. Something about how he needs two people just to lift it up on the bench.

Haha. Well doesn't $90 seem like a lot to just check out the chassis, clean the pots and check the tube bias? Or is that normal?

my tech charges me $50 for a standard bench test...but I do also give him a lot of business. $90 is a bit steep. Just play the hell out of it for the next 90 days and make sure it doesn't start to sound loose or muddy. that is usually a sign that the caps and/or tubes need changing.

ok, so now it is definitely overkill ;)

The hype is real though, the Walkabout sounds ridiculously good for something that small. The real test will be to see if it can keep up with the other 2/3 of monobrow...

sorry about the crappy pic.

How do you have the mids and treble? Mine are with the mids @ 9oclock and highs off...I never do that but I find it to be quite bright. with more treble (like noon) I get hiss from the treble pot with the drive that high.

Yeah I'm asking around. But I doubt I'll ever find anyone as awesome as Brooks from Big Crunch. Last time my SVT-CL went down with a bad power tube, he charged me $45 + like $7 for a slightly used tube he had that was a good match.

He's going on tour with At the Drive-In on their reunion tour as their amp and guitar tech. Pretty awesome.

speaking of P basses with flats, since I got the fretless, I haven't touched my Starfire, dont think I will for some time either, the sound is just so perfect.

Question...do you guys think a B2R and a 2x15 can keep up with a dimed guitar half stack? or am I just convincing myself that it wont, to get a new rig.

You'll do fine. I'm using a 200 watt Sunn and I keep getting told to turn down.
