Stoner/Doom Bassist Thread Part 8 - Insert witty title...

I highly recommend the new brighton music shop.

Hadn't heard of this place yet as I'm still new to the area. Pianos n Stuff said $60, Pittsburgh Guitars said $55 so I guess it is just that Manella place that overcharges. The Brighton site says diagnostics start at $35 and repairs at $65 so I'll have to see how much they want. Thanks for the suggestion.

I went to the studio last night to exercise some demons and I decided to bring along a pedal I’ve been working on. I shot a couple of videos with my phone but most of them were too long for my phone to upload.

There was one video that I was able to upload to YouTube but unfortunately it’s my least favorite of the bunch. This clip has higher gain than I would normally use. I was just trying to see if the camera could record the speakers without too much trouble (there appears to be some clipping of the phone’s camera mic). I have the amp’s EQ set flat for this recording but I would normally have a slight bass boost and a slight mid cut. This is actually only part of the design. The full design has an added bass boost circuit but it’s not on the breadboard because I was just tweaking the distortion part of the design. I’ve only listened to this on my phone’s speakers so I can’t really tell how good or bad it sounds. Either way I just thought I’d share it with you guys.

Sounds cool thru my phone speaker, I remember you talking about this a few threads back, what is it based off of? And did you get your flats put on?

I didn't put the flats back on yet. I'm thinking of putting them on my back up bass so I can switch between them depending on my mood.

This pedal is based on an MXR Distortion + and Ross Distortion. I made some very minor tweaks to retain some low end and to allow it to handle a high output bass. My G&L can clip the stock pedals with the gain all the way down!

I'm AT work, wouldn't say busy.

Jammed with a drummer last night, but it wasn't really productive. After not really getting any of the song down he just sort of shrugged and said "I don't really know how to play this music". Which is weird since he contacted me very enthusiastically like "No one wants to play music like this here, I'm so into it!" and I sent him a scratch track w/ drum machine and he said he was into it. Guy seemed a bit flaky, not really surprising for a typical CL experience. I have another guy lined up to jam next week. The guy I tried out last night seems to want another chance to work on the song I sent him and try it again, we'll see.

I really want to play my new Ampeg. Need to hurry up and get a second cab.
