Stoner/Doom Bassist Thread Part 8 - Insert witty title...

YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT WORKS!!!!!!! WOOOO!!!!

I`m sooo happy right now!!! I opened up the front grill and checked the pre amp tubes. They were all in the right spot but maybe I didn`t have them seated correctly. Either way, I turned on the amp and gave it a try and BAM!!!! I got sweet tones!!!!
Thanks to every one here that helped me out with my(simple) problem! I`m so fricken stoked right now!!
It`s DOOM time!!

I think the thread as a whole talked laz out of one so must not be too cool. But I don't really know. I thought their might be some drama or something over their ;)

Naw I was never talked out of one. I had actually asked Sam to check them out for me since he's up North, but then I found the awesome deal on this VR and I KNEW I wanted one of those.

I've heard great things about the YBA300 and love Traynor as a company. Unfortunately I experienced the same low volume issues you guys mentioned too. However I don't think that is par for the course for all Traynor gear.

Thanks for the help Eyeball! I just unplugged my amp and I`m going to let it cool down. I brought a few pairs of disposable gloves home from work today. So I`ll slap those on and check out the preamp tubes. I hope I just put the wrong one in the wrong slot and fix it myself. I`ll find out in a few minutes!

@Laz, Did you say your buddy is the new tech for At The Drive In? I loves that band. What a bleeping dream job!

Well I wouldn't call him my buddy. He was my amp tech in Baltimore. Super nice guy and amazing at what he does. He does repair work in a shop that shares space with a recording studio where Clutch, Wino, etc have all recorded.

So far it seems to be the answer to my V4B dreams. The v4 had this narrow sweet spot that would be at the edge of "loud enough" but if ya turned it up any it went totally into overdrive and put out spikes on hard notes that would overpush speakers.....the 100t has more volume before you hit overdrive and when you do hit it it goes in smoothly....it definitely has enough volume to crush speakers, and im guessing it will be just right. plus doing 2ohms means more cabs. I had it thru the 610 and 215 today and was shaking my house with clean. I eq it with mids at 10 (full) and bass and treble at 5. Its nice and full, throbbing, with plenty of bass. ("flat" on fender tone stacks is close to this). Wait til Sunday for a full report.
I was A/B ing it with my 300pro and could get the same level of stage volume I use. On the 300 the channel volumes stay about 3 with the master never over 4, and the 100t would have the channel volume at about 7 and the master at 7 and it was clean with just a little drive with the tubes biased normal...

And as you may realize the v4b gets more by far than the v4bh that has the same tube compliment as the 100t...so far im real impressed.

Makes me wonder if your tubes are a little old and weak that you can get that...that kinda setting would have literally popped speakers out of the frame with mine....
And thats not a bad thing, especially if it lets you do more and different things with your amp.

Damn...im postin so much today you might as well call me Laz! ;-)

I bought it from the guys at Emperor Cabs, they told me it went to a shop and got checked out and had new power Tubes installed. When i got it, it was kinda wonky to later find out a pre tube got messed up in shipping. The amp may need caps but i know all the tubes are good. Maybe I'm just deaf.

Maybe your tube is weak!

Just wanted to say hi to you gents, been on tb for awhile now. I dont post much, however I have recently become addicted to this thread so I figure I might as well become active in it. Currently working with a drummer, keyboardist, and guitarist. Way too early on for any kind of worthwhile recording to share. I hail from pittsburgh, well north of it actually but I live there for several years while attending the art institute. But enough about me, anyone heard the new mental architects single? The album was produced by aaron harris and so far its shaping up to be tight as hell.
