Stoner/Doom Bassist Thread Part 8 - Insert witty title...

I'm AT work, wouldn't say busy.

Jammed with a drummer last night, but it wasn't really productive. After not really getting any of the song down he just sort of shrugged and said "I don't really know how to play this music". Which is weird since he contacted me very enthusiastically like "No one wants to play music like this here, I'm so into it!" and I sent him a scratch track w/ drum machine and he said he was into it. Guy seemed a bit flaky, not really surprising for a typical CL experience. I have another guy lined up to jam next week. The guy I tried out last night seems to want another chance to work on the song I sent him and try it again, we'll see.

I really want to play my new Ampeg. Need to hurry up and get a second cab.

Jesus, it ain't that hard. Come to Baltimore and I'll be your drummer!

It really isn't, the stuff I write is pretty straight forward. Hell, the song I sent him had practically one beat through the whole thing, that's why I was so frustrated. I think the other guy I'm meeting with next week will work out a lot better.

I almost moved to the NOVA/MD/WV area a few years ago actually. We flew out and checked it out for a couple days while my wife was interviewing for a job, but she didn't get hired. Never been to Baltimore though.

I haven't heard one (YBA300) in person yet. I didn't like the MkI version of the YBA200 I had though. It was quiet for its power rating and I didn't care for the tone much. I bought one when they first came out and I know some people have claimed the MkII was better. So if the 300 is an additional revision/refinement of the YBA200 it might be considerably better. Traynor isn't very good at getting their amps out into wide circulation it seems, so I don't hear much about them outside forum speculation. I had to hunt for a while to find a YBA200 to buy new, never saw anyone else using one live and I've yet to see a YBA300 in the wild.

This 100t has way more volume than my yba 200 ever did...and the tone rules! Can get very close to my preferred sound of the 300t and get a similar usable volume. I could easily crap out a speaker with it..... Ive always been looking for a 200 watt tube amp cos I figured a 100 wouldnt hang....but oh yeah.

My YBA-1 has more volume than my YBA200 did and better tone. I know some people love that amp, but I think it's a dud. I feel free to express that opinion without reservation because I had that amp for years and WANTED to love it, TRIED to love it. Tried different settings, tubes, cabs, basses...no dice. I also had to buy it back the first time I sold it because it blew up the same day (a resistor coupled to one of the power tubes blew). To Traynor's credit though they have a great "no questions asked" warranty and took care of it as smoothly and trouble free as anyone could hope for in that type of situation.

OK,I plugged my bass into the effects send and got a signal with static and plugged it into the return and also got a signal, with no static. But I wasn`t able to control the volume at all with it plugged into the effects return. And when I plugged it into the "Power amp pass through" I got no signal at all.

Thoughts?

Effects return gave you a no static signal...good...what was the volume like? Loud? Or?

And the master volume did nothing?

Edit....I just plugged mine in that way...that is normal! So, your power section is fine....i suspect preamp tubes. You probably either have a bad one, or in the wrong spot, or not seated correctly...hopefully you didnt force one down in and break a pin.

Hey Eyeball, have you gigged the 100t? If it was mated up with, say, a fEARful 15/6, would it be able to hang in a rock/moderate volume doom scenario?

Not yet...but the usable volume im getting at home more than matches my stage volume. I have no fearful experience, but with a Berg NV or my fender 215 it will more than do!
I have practice this weekend, which is live volume, so ill report back then.

Thanks for the help Eyeball! I just unplugged my amp and I`m going to let it cool down. I brought a few pairs of disposable gloves home from work today. So I`ll slap those on and check out the preamp tubes. I hope I just put the wrong one in the wrong slot and fix it myself. I`ll find out in a few minutes!

@Laz, Did you say your buddy is the new tech for At The Drive In? I loves that band. What a bleeping dream job!

Kawai: im playing with the master @ 5.5 and the channel volume at 6 and its gig loud. you can take the channel volume up all the way and it continues to increase in volume but you do start to get preamp grit, not much even at 9, but its not strictly clean. Unlike alot of amps the master keeps giving you more volume past 7 but nearing 9 or max you do start to get power amp drive...which is good, but im trying to explain its clean potential. With the way I have it I can take the master to 8 and be ungodly loud. The cool thing is that the fender tone stack allows.you to cut the bass and still be very full thereby giving you more headroom by not chewing up your Watts pushing too much low end.

YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT WORKS!!!!!!! WOOOO!!!!

I`m sooo happy right now!!! I opened up the front grill and checked the pre amp tubes. They were all in the right spot but maybe I didn`t have them seated correctly. Either way, I turned on the amp and gave it a try and BAM!!!! I got sweet tones!!!!
Thanks to every one here that helped me out with my(simple) problem! I`m so fricken stoked right now!!
It`s DOOM time!!
