Stoner/Doom Bassist Thread Part 8 - Insert witty title...

Well, I dont think Sonny takes any money until he tells you your number is coming up....and yeah, I had to wait six months on a stock color Ernie ball...big deal..i never once got an email from them! In fact I got a shipping notice a half hour AFTER the bass arrived... Was I upset, no way...I guess im old enough to remember when allow 4-6 Weeks was quick!...I commend you fellas who actually have been part of the saga from experience, your posts have been much more gracious and mature than some in that thread who just wanna reduce the conversation to ruin a guy...I guess thats why I hang out in this thread the most..you guys are cool....

I don't wanna get involved. Kinda sucks for resale value though....Laz...Have you gotten any bites on yours?

Nope not yet. Already sold my power amp so no real use for it now either. I'm hoping someone wants it as I'm getting more and more interested in one of these 35 lbs composite 215 fearful dually cabs...

Convinced my dad to help me build a set when I was home over the weekend. Hopefully once I read through all the plans again I can get them built between 2-3 weekends. Goin with 2 tallstack 15+6's, no tweets.

From what I've read, some people consider it an IMPROVEMENT as they are extremely rigid and no vibrations are soaked up by wood like in conventional cabinets. I'm pretty naive to the whole thing but apparently they have not caught on to the level of large commercial scaling as they require hand layups and such, and would be difficult to mass produce.

The design I'm looking at is the fEarful Dually. It is a new 2x15 fEarful design with no tweeter or crossover. Supposed to be a superior quad ported 215. There are these neo speakers made by Faital that are supposed to sound a lot like vintage JBLs. The whole idea of this new non-crossover design was to create a vintage sounding 215 with modern design.

If I do end up going through with it, I'll be using a very respected builder at Audiokinesis. No more crazy custom builders for me lol.

Yeah the normal fEarfuls seem cool but I have no desire for a cab with a crossover and MF driver. But they would probably be excellent for you.

That's why this fEarful Dually design has me intrigued.

MF driver? You mean midrange or something? Sorry I'm a cab noob.

Yeah man I was jammin on my old Peavey 300 last night, and that big 15" Black Widow just sounds SOO GOOOD. If I was in more dire financial straights, I'd gut it and run my Ampeg right into there. But as it is, I'll sell off the cabs, keep the Peavey, and play the fEARfuls.

edit: and I'm not gonna argue the epicness of a straight 2x15

Got to play the SVT CL at practice last night. Sounded great, purchase well justified. One of my band mates referred to it as "monstrous". I just plugged in and went all knobs at noon except master volume. So I'm sure I'll probably explore it a bit more in the near future, but my Drake Custom sounded great through it.

Drive-by pedal board...

of doom.

So I am an effects noob and minimalist. I run Boss OC-3 octave => Bluebeard fuzz => digitech multi chorus. I didn't use these much with the magma as it wasn't very pedal friendly but this combo worked great with my SVT-CL.

I have plenty of pedal power and space left on my board. What are some pedals that you guys would recommend? I haven't put too much thought into it, but I was thinking maybe a delay for the kind of spacey neurosis/Isis stuff we do or maybe a good OD pedal to run semi fuzz on the BB then OD for full fuzz? I'm not sure.
