Stoner/Doom Bassist Thread Part 8 - Insert witty title...

Just got home this morning. Holy crap is it hard to drive straight from LA to Boston. I need to sleep for about 3 days now.

Also, the van rental place is trying to F us. The trailer we rented from them fell off the hitch outside Seattle. We got it fixed (for $250), and now they're claiming we overloaded it (not even close), refuse to reimburse us for that and claim they're coming after us for the damage to the trailer. Also, they dinged our band credit card today, despite my telling them we authorize no further charges until the damage situation is worked out.

So yeah, avoid Adventure Van Rentals like the plague. This one is going to end up in court.

Other than that, how was it?

Great! Shows were sparsely attended (blame a lack of promotion), but lots of fun to play all over the place.

Beyond the van situation the travel was brutal. We had to drive it from Boston to Seattle, then back home from LA after the last show, so that was painful. Also a lot of the venues were 500-700 miles apart so there were some endless drives.

All said, though, touring is where it's at. Going back to work tomorrow is going to suck something awful.

So I jammed around the Catalinbread SFT and very much like it. I wanna run it at 18v and see how it sounds with my Electric Amp once I'm done moving. So far my effects are looking like: Pitchblack tuner > SFT > Mojo Hand Colossus > EHX Memory Toy > Old boss bass chorus > Ibanez Airplane Flanger > Morley Bass Wah. I wanna switch the chorus to a T.Rex sweeper though and get a power brick so I can use 18v and ditch the daisy chain mess. A lot of years messing with pedals but now I'm pretty happy with them. Time to build a pedal board for the mess

So, I change my mind like Bieber changes outfits on stage...After a lot of playing my fretless, I dont think I'm going to mod it as much as I had previously planned. I dont think I need to add any more pickups, but I want to replace the stock pickup with a Vintage style P pickup and a John East P-Retro preamp. Slap a black pickguard on there. But there are some thing that I want to do. It definitely needs better tuners and bridge. Last but the mos def, the important an unlined fretless birdseye maple neck from Warmoth with the Gibson style V headstock.

That, and I've found my next pedalboard setup I'm going to work my way towards. Boss tuner, Bass Crybaby, MXR Bass Compressor, FUZZROCIOUS Dark Driving, MXR Bass Fuzz Deluxe, volume, a real pedalboard and power supply. This will be my first "real" all put together pebalboard. I'll be selling my Boss Reverb and Carbon Copy to start to fund it. I may keep the Micro Synth, but I dont use it much, so that will more than likely walk the plank. And I dont see me needing the Big Muff either if I have the MXR and FUZZROCIOUS, and if I ever want one again, they are cheap to replace.

All this will probably by next week...

Buy the time you do all that, you might as well just build a separate bass all together
