Stoner/Doom Bassists #64 - sensitive artsy emo chicks

So if Mountain came out today they'd be considered Stoner? Can you play Stoner rock if you don't, uhhh, "partake"?

for sure, i'd say a good half of us in here don't partake!

Mountain is a tricky one. they tickle me in the same way bands like Blue Cheer, Iron Butterfly and Sir Lord Baltimore do.. i would personally consider it some form of proto-stoner. big, repetitive, killer riffs.

F that they play the Blues Rawk.

:hmm:

I try not to define stuff too much. I hate genre lines. See it too much within music I like. Like, I'm not into post metal so I can't like Neurosis, kinda crap.

If I like it, it goes into the "I like it" category. Like arguing with people about metal bands.

No they aren't technical thrash, they are neothrash core.

I stay away from that as much as possible. We aren't going to start a Stoner/Doom/Heavy Blues/Hard Rock/Psychedelic, thread. Stoner Rock and Doom pretty much encompasses all the stuff we talk about here.

I don't get lifted and I still rock out with the stoner, both rocks and metals, and the doom. I'm used to the general unawareness to super specific sub-genres, I also tend to throw around the phrase "heavy rock" a lot. For doom metal, I just tell people "Black Sabbath...but more so".

Totally heavy man...also, far out.

i have to do real work for one day, i come back and people are hating on neo speakers, praising a guy for making a cab the size of a honda accord, and ron is selling his midget lunch box head.

you guys are a confusing group of dudes lol.

I'm not hating on NEO's I just don't particularly like them. What ever works for you is cool.

The cab isn't THAT big. I could always go for the 8x15. ;)

Started with 415s and 218s between 3 cabs, then dropped a 215 from an improvement by ohms and cab number, now that i have the folded 18, I improving the DOOM while keeping the manageable 2 cabs.

Now im trying to convince my guitarist to wire a 2 ohm 412 so hell just have 2 cabs, life would be easy and the DOOM would be still plentiful.

Heavy Eyes are awesome! I'd definitely group them with the Stoner/Doom genre.

I guess im a bit older and think stoner/doom encompasses bands like kyuss, sleep, anything with wino, acid king. Then there is the newer crop heavy eyes, stubb, kavader, tia carrera that dont sound evil, dont play in drop c. But rock the heavy blues. Jack Endino said its just heavy rock. I dont like labels either and it doesnt factor into what i like or listen to, i guess those are just my impressions.
