it is strange, their bass cabs get clobbered a lot more than the guitar ones so who knows. ive never played one so i cant say, but im sure they arent as horrid as plenty make them out to be.

If someone I know well, more to the point whose taste I know well, told me they sounded terrible...I would still want to try them out myself. There's just so many variable that go into "good tone", on its own and in a mix, it's impossible to tell how someone is using any particular piece of gear. I will talk up my Dually because I like the way it sounds, it definitely doesn't invalidate all my other gear and I wouldn't recommend it for everyone in every circumstance. It's no different than the way our guitarist has used about 10 different speaker types in his cabs. I've heard some of them sound great and some sound awful, sometimes the same speaker changes from cab to cab or amp or pedal or guitar. I try to be careful not to just chime in with my favorite pieces of gear anytime someone wants a recommendation, sometimes they just don't apply. Sometimes what's efficient isn't always what sounds best for a particular sound or with particular pieces of gear.

If Emperor cabs called me up, offered me an endorsement and wanted to ship me a wall of huge heavy cabs, I'd give them a fair shot and rock them. I'm certainly not afraid of heavy gear or too much of anything, but if they didn't sound good they'd be GONE. I've got no room for brand wh*ring in my rig, it's pure tonal darwinism.

Carvin SB's are the only basses anyone should ever need. Unless they want a six string...

I plan on having a SB5000 built when I graduate.

Yea they moved locations, they are ok but kind of a tad over priced, also they post ads on Craigslist and don't mention they are a store. So you contact them and turns out its a non negotiable price and tax they didn't mention.

Bought a duo sonic from there, they have nice stuff, they just know it and are stubborn.

Seems a lot of stores that carry all the cool **** are like that. I imagine it's necessary for a place like that to succeed. Double edged sword.

Part of the reason I agreed to a 35" scale was for an awesome BEAD tuned bass...that G string is fine and all, but it's never got me a gig :)

I'm starting to come around to the idea of a 35" scale 4 string bass. I keep my Precision in BEAD and I'm bottomed out on the saddle adjustment on the B string. To the point where I have to back it off a bit, otherwise the severe angle of the string break actually starts pitching it UP when I'm trying to set the intonation.

Hey what are the specifics on your p bass? I want to get one and use it for bead.

Also, which naturally has more low end a p bass or j bass neck pickup? Never played them side by side to be honest. I've always owned a p bass never really played a j but a short time, it was a lefty strung righty with chromes and sounded great with my old gear.

Having played more of my share of emperor cabs. I can say that their guitar cabs do sound pretty great. We use 2 of their 6x12's in Bongripper and they sound great. They're horrible to move but we ended up installing casters on the bottoms to help with that (up and down stairs is still awful, worse than an 8x10 fridge due to handle placement and such). Forgive my ignorance on this following statement but it seems a lot easier to make a good guitar cab. Make it sturdy,copy the classic formats, and load it up with good/decent speakers and it'll sound like it's supposed to.

There seems to be a lot more variance in building a bass cab. While I had my emperors I was fine with the sound, but I always felt like something was missing for the amount of speakers I was moving I never felt like it was doing what they should. It wasn't until I played through a really well designed cab that I realized I was missing.

I know this topic gets beaten to death. But I personally spent a ton of money on the cabs in question, and now I have a fearful on its way to me soon. That being said, based on all my pervious experience I wouldn't even consider going back to those cabs.
