Just poked around on the Drake website and man, he has built some awesome stuff! I'm really digging a lot of his designs.

no. now its fearful/dually, micro head, and the fuzzes vary. basses still vary as well.

Never played a bass like that, but those weird upper neck tumors always look like they'd get in the way. But I'm a big fan of double cut style bodies.

What's a reasonable price range for a classic 400 and how much does a re tube cost?

Depending on the shape of the amp anywhere between $650 -$800. Full retube is going to be somewhere between $350-$450 depending on what tubes you pick and what your tech time costs.

i just find it funny that in almost every thread that i open with someone asking for amp/cab recommendations you post a fearful and a peavey 400. i understand thats your rig and you love it, but the options for cabs and amps are almost countless.

I am just really sad that that the person to apparently cyber stalk me does such a poor job and has such poor reading comprehension.

I suggested a local custom cam builder to a local buyer. No where did I mention a brand or a design. Sure Dave builds several different lines of greenboy cabs, but he does custom work too. I myself have commissioned custom work from him.

While we are on the point of different lines, I'm sorry that you are confused that fEARful=fEARless=greenboy (Dually) Cabs. They are different product lines, with different design goals.

Now back to reading comprehension. Yes I suggest greenboy's designs a lot, but my recommendations are on a case by case basis. In threads where I feel there is something that better meets the OP's needs I do in fact suggest it. Dont believe me? Curl up with the search function.

and emperor being sub par is not a "fact", its an opinion. there no facts stating one cab is "better" than another. this goes for all gear.

Yep there is a difference between subjective and objective. Here are a few things that the non ignorant can agree are objectively good to have in your bass cab designs.

• Proper bracing - to keep the panels of the cabs from flexing.
• Internal bating - better low and mid production
• properly sized ports - If someone likes a sealed cab thats cool, but there is no reason to design a cab around undersized ports. No one likes chuffing or limiting your power handling.

Now you can play and recommend what ever you like, but that does not the objective is not there.

It worked for Jack Bruce. I'm a fan, if that counts.


I went from my El Oso when I was getting almost the exact same tones from the Ultimate Drive. It was redundant and the Pharaoh can get a lot grittier.

I don't think we will ever get away from the vintage vs technology rant. It's going to be here. But yes, the rest of TB cannot be civilized about it.

I mean, I like technology, but some of the olde designs just do it for me. Maybe not for you, but for me, very much so. That said, I consider my gear on the low budget side of things (except my Carvin). I make what I can afford, work with what I am doing. Anyone that wants to knock me for that can fvck right off. S/D is not the thread for bashing people's gear. It's one thing that I found so awesome and welcoming.

i like the EB3L's alot, but i think i want one made out of mahogany and Indian rosewood, with some really typical inlays...lol

I asked about rebuilding my Yamaha to be lighter weight than the 150 + lbs that it weighs and you straight recommended a greenboy design...

Not trying to call you out, but, not sure how you addressed "my" concern. It's cool though. I recommend my Carvin SB a lot. People like what they like.

I've been looking into having a bass made for awhile now...99% sure I'm going with Drake for this build, partly due to Corey Young's endorsement of Andrew as a builder and a person...I was looking for a 35" scale 4 string, for occasional down tuning, chambered body and TV Jones Thunder Blade pickups. I also like a fairly wide pickup placement, mostly becase I dig the tone, but partly because I think the Ric 4005 is the coolest looking bass of all time.

Though I really just don't relate to coffee table basses (I mostly play a T-40 or a Pbass), Andrew was thinking of putting a couple mahogany/maple/walnut stripes in there...still pondering that one. The finished body shape looks more like this;

Andrew also wants to use black hardware, which I'm not typically a huge fan of, but I'm getting the TV Jones pickups done with the 'soapbar mount,' so I think it could look really cool

My opinions on Drake are well known, I give this a +1000. If you dig what Andrew does I think you'll be over the moon with what he makes. Can't say it enough, the guy is the real deal for building, excellent quality and he is just a good dude to boot. I'd still like to have him make me a guitar as well at some point or maybe another bass for BEAD tuning.

Our guitar player in Warp Rig plays an Emperor 212 and it's one of the best guitar cabs I've heard. It might just be the EV speakers he has in it, but it looks pretty anyway, so either way it's getting the job done. I've never heard the Emperor bass cabs. A lot of people seem to talk ill of them, but I've never heard any in person. The proof of the pudding is in the tasting and all that, I like to decide with my ears.

I still have my 810e and 410HLF. I only had an SVT-CL for a short time, but it wasn't my cup of tea. I'm planning on recording the bass tracks for Cold Mourning with the 410HLF. The Dually that Mark made me lives in the Warp Rig practice space, Cold Mourning doesn't play frequently enough for me to justify moving it back and forth.

i guess just every case requires the same setup then lol. i cant help that tons of threads i read have the green koolaid man suggesting a fearful/fearless/dually (and please dont tell me theyre all these vastly different cabs, theyre neo loaded cabs built by different builders based on the principle of loud cabs in a small light box that can be transported very easily).

and while those are fine and dandy, that doesnt change the fact that your ears should tell you what is right. if the port size is wrong and the cab sounds good, who cares? if the bracing isnt great, and it sounds good, who cares? im sure there are properly braced cabs and properly ported cabs that sound like ****, and vice versa.
