Stoner/Doom Bassists #64 - sensitive artsy emo chicks

My wife and I's project, if it ever comes into fruition, is mutating into a strange beast. I had her do a youtube listen party with me last night to try to find bands she dug that we could both agree on. We settled on Tad and Melvins. New plan: play bass with 2 distortions stacking and find a guitard who can pick jangly chords for me in the background while I attempt to sing.

Wait, this is starting to sound like Still valley now. FUK. :p

dont know how you do it. my wife is a drummer too and we had a band together years ago, but talk about band drama times 1000! maybe it would work as a duo but try and bring in a guitar player and your asking for trouble. ha ha just kiddin

then you get the pleasure of kicking her out of the band while trying to keep the relationship, somehow i managed that

one of the few Emperor supporters in this group is now rockin Ron's Berg, go figure

And if you talk to Jason! he was about to pull the trigger on a fEARless F215, but traded his Mesa for Ron's Berg. Ron let his berg go because he is getting a fEARful 1515/66/1. Go figure.

****, i gotta buy Michigan dude, i cant even sleep on the mitten discount! i love their goals listed on the website too lol.

Dave Homer is the man. I doubt you will ever find anyone as willing to help a fellow michigander out as he is.

from the official fearful/dually peddler? GET OUT OF TOWN! haha

If I honestly thought the emperors were the better option that is what I would be playing and what I would be suggesting. But they are in fact sub par on more than one level. I dont get any of my cabs for free or at a discount. I like em so much I pay full price for them. If Hydra had lived in texas, I might not have piped up, but if he is ordering a custom cab he might as well order one local.

If any part of that puts your man-ties in a twist, good. Enjoy your twisted man-ties and play what you like.

cant think of much worse than some poorly executed blues guitar noodling

yeah blues is the last thing id probably ever listen to. old blues to me is more depressing and sad than heavy haha, but some of it is cool just for historys sake although id never listen to it on my own.

Hey depression is heavy

And yes, just mentioning wanking blues makes me cringe and invision portly white dudes in bowling shirts and fedoras playing their fender road worns.

once i was describing to my old man what doom metal is like and after my long explaination he says, "oh like black sabbath?". apparently thats all that was needed to be said.

Ha my dad doesn't listen to much music, and I was listening to electric wizard and he snaps up and says Hey! this is just like sabbath and all those 70's bands.

I've been looking into having a bass made for awhile now...99% sure I'm going with Drake for this build, partly due to Corey Young's endorsement of Andrew as a builder and a person...I was looking for a 35" scale 4 string, for occasional down tuning, chambered body and TV Jones Thunder Blade pickups. I also like a fairly wide pickup placement, mostly becase I dig the tone, but partly because I think the Ric 4005 is the coolest looking bass of all time.

here's a sorta mock up

Though I really just don't relate to coffee table basses (I mostly play a T-40 or a Pbass), Andrew was thinking of putting a couple mahogany/maple/walnut stripes in there...still pondering that one. The finished body shape looks more like this;

Andrew also wants to use black hardware, which I'm not typically a huge fan of, but I'm getting the TV Jones pickups done with the 'soapbar mount,' so I think it could look really cool :)

I really like where this is going... can't wait to see a finished product.

i just find it funny that in almost every thread that i open with someone asking for amp/cab recommendations you post a fearful and a peavey 400. i understand thats your rig and you love it, but the options for cabs and amps are almost countless.

and emperor being sub par is not a "fact", its an opinion. there no facts stating one cab is "better" than another. this goes for all gear.

Especially if you can't count very well :)

No harm in saying you dig what you dig, but they do make different colored shirts for a reason. I play some gear Julian wouldn't touch, but he's always been cool about it

What's a reasonable price range for a classic 400 and how much does a re tube cost?

I almost snapped up a pristine CL400 in tweed here locally, but dude was firm on $700, which aint bad, but I couldn't really justify it at the time...amazing amps though if you're an olympic weight lifter!
