Stoner/Doom Bassists #65: Wasted Under the Brim

I grew up with The Cult. My dad would play them on the stereo while I played on the living room floor. On road trips with my folks, The Cult(and U2) were always in the car`s tape deck.
That was during the mid 80`s to early 90`s. About 10 years ago I was able to see them live. Not only did they put on a killer show but it was cool to see some of my childhood rock heroes as an adult.

Props to your pops for some good music taste!

Its one of the few bands I had always really wanted to see and never have had a chance to.

My dad(and Mom) had pretty good musical taste. They both took me to see U2 in `87(when I was 6 years old).My dad took me to see Ozzy and Alice in Chains when I was 12,saw NiN and Manson in 94/95. Went to Lollapalooza with my mom so we could watch Tool in `97. Saw NiN with my Dad again in 2000.Then my mom & dad saw tool again along with me and my buddy. We had different seats tho. I sold my dad a strong hit of acid for that show. Later on my Mom mentioned the LSD. I asked her if she was mad. She said "No,I`m not mad. I`m let down that you couldn`t give your poor old mother a hit too! Tool had a sweet ass light show!" That`s the kind of parents I had.

I owe a lot to my parents. If it wasn`t for their taste in music and them playing it in the house all the time,I might have been a different kid. I gave back to them to. For every Led Zep or Pink Floyd they gave to me,I gave them At the Drive In,Refused,Deftones and the White Stripes.
I feel pretty lucky to have my mom and dad.

Nice! Same here with the parents but not quite that good. My mom loved all kinds of music but was very much into 70s reggae and she bought my my first concert ticket for Ozzy and Metallica when I was 11 in 86. My dad was more of a classic rock guy and always had the Doors, Stones and the Who on tap for our twice a summer cross country trips and he never complained when I wanted to listen to my music as long as we rotated every album.

haha poor old mother... haha

I'd ask the old man if he wanted to smoke. He'd look at my bag. Tell me to save that crap for me and my friends, and to go grab his stash. haha. Then he'd roll the perfect old man pinner.
Then he would put in some Hawkwind and we'd drink beers all night and work on his drag car. Coolest motherf*cker ever! He didn't mind my music too much. But this was when I was younger and everything I listened to was pretty heavy. Now I got a bunch of stuff to show him, I think he would appreciate. But he's settled down in his old age. haha. That and he has another 2yr old kid now....
My mom finally loosened up a bit too. But that wasn't until I was 21 or so.

Weekend project: I have a Laney AOR Pro-Tube which is basically a JCM-800 with an extra tube gain stage and pull-boosts on the EQ knobs. The beast had a spare triode free, so I thought I'd utilize it and add ANOTHER gain stage. Turned out AWESOME! I'm in gain heaven now. I threw a 1M pot as a voltage divider in interstage as a gain control. Goes from brutal to ultra brutal. :bassist:

I'm currently using two JAN Phillips Long Plate 12ax7's and two NEC (Amperex clone) 12AD7's, as well as Tung Sol EL34B's. Sounds pretty evil. That is all...

pretend you're the sole roadie for like an entire orchestra, and its time to head out.

That's pretty much what i do. I'm a good person to ask for that kind of thing. I find that people often need some help figuring out what to do in what order. So i'll help direct traffic while i move stuff non-stop. I really hate moving so i work hard and don't **** around so we can finish as soon as possible. I'm also really good at using every last inch of space in the back of a moving van. Years of warehouse work, box truck driving and Tetris have turned me into a goddamn machine.

My sister's moving van was half full when i got there, it looked like they were going to run out of space in a hurry. I moved some things around and managed to use every last inch of space in that van. I'm pretty proud of that job.

After that i did a lot of work in the garden, now I'm sitting on the porch drinking some New Glarus Two Women lager. It was a good day.

Man FYI don't trim your girlfriends, wive's, starter girlfriend's, etc,. hedges. Lol. Fought a migraine all day and the heat was brutal here, so early evening I went out since it cooled down a bit and started weed eating, then ran out of string and the new spool the guy sold me was for the wrong machine, so grabbed the hedge trimmers and went to down on the front yard facing the main road and the front of the house, trying to de-white trash the landscaping of my house, since I have been slacking, well the old lady and little one went to visit a friend who lost her job of 17 years, to cheer her up some, so as soon as she gets out of my car she is what happened to my bushes, man oh man, what a kick in the balls, I broke a little bad and she apologized, but man yard work sucks on so so so many levels, argh.

Thanks!

Cool parents you guys! The Cult was the **** back in the day, pretty original for the crap that was out back then.

Another reason those youthful hours weren't wasted on Tetris, could looking out for the family.
