Doing some research on creating a LLC, or something similar for the band. I just picked up a van yesterday, made some shirts today, and will be putting a couple thousand miles on the odometer for some shows this upcoming weekend.

Anyone have some more experience doing this? Ron, you guys have something similar setup for Bongripper?

This may all be unnecessary, but everyone in the band is putting their pocket books on the line and I want to make sure we're all covered.

Can you get short term insurance or something until then? Creating a company seems like it'd take at least 5 business says.

I'm thinking long term.

I was just mentioning the kind of **** we're getting to in one weekend. THe future plans will be much more involved.

Essentially, we'll be buying more gear, more merch, might need to fix the van, would like to deal with $$$$ like pros instead of having some fall outs.

Covering our asses per the laws of the United States of 'Murica.

Basically want to run this like a business taking advantage of any possible tax laws. For someone wondering why in blue blazes would I want to do that?Well, I'm just trying to best prepare us and this kind of shvt is kinda fun for me. In my band we've got a graphic designer, IT guy, music shop guy, and business guy. Obviously, it would be best to talk to some sort of tax/business lawyer, but looking at these resources to get a basic idea.

So we had a show on the 21st with two other local bands, got told today that the venue had a "scheduling snafu" and the gig is cancelled. They offered up the next saturday, but there's conflicts with everyone's schedules so us and one of the other bands can't do it . I don't think we would have done it anyway. Flyers made and posted already, Facebook event was done, it's way too late to try and change the date. ********.

We got reported by Paypal to the IRS this past year. But instead of starting an LLC we filed the band expenses under my name as a sole proprietor. Now we switch track and switch accounts so it doesn't happen again.

We do pretty alright as a band, but not so much that we can afford to let them take all our profits that go back into making more records for taxes.
