So this is weird.

Finally got to sit down and mess with my new T-40 and noticed something... odd. This look right to yinz?

The craziest part, this bass is obviously well played... I found out its an '83. Have people been playing this bass for 31 years with a crooked bridge???

Not as apparent in the pic, but in real life the bridge is laughably off center of the strap button

Its still surprisingly playable, although completely out of intonation, not sure if due to the overall wonkiness or just adjustment. Its off just enough that drilling new holes would be difficult, the bit would slide into the old holes and I just think it'd be messy... maybe switch the bridge? Although this old school bridge is just too badass.

I cant quite figure out if the electronics are doing what they're supposed to, so gonna crack that open later today and get a gander. This $100 bass just turned into a fun project!

Edit: also that should have a pointy logo, looks like he pulled it off or someone else did. And you can find thread on TB where a guy mods it to be his bass amp. I have a bunch of email correspondence with him and diagrams somewhere. I did some of the mods with my dad, but my dad didn't grasp what the mods did exactly so argued they were invasive so he scaled back a lot and I think he missed the key points of the mods as we skipped one that lowered gain and one that let more bass through the pre.

El34 that's what I meant.

It had a small plastic gold Peavey logo that was circular, I'm talking the big metal silver one like on my folded 18. Mods will come in time, I know you can mod it to be a Plexi, what about a Superbass?

Toast, you could probably fill the old bridge holes with dowels and glue, then drill the new ones. I'm sure someone in the luthier section could help.

So first practice with the lm308 in the rat pedal last night. It's much brighter than the OP07, i really had crank that filter knob to get it where i wanted. It also seems hotter and has more gain on tap. The aggressively ugly midrange bump has been tamed, but its there, just a little refined, i guess.

Mmmm glad u mentioned dowels, I was thinking of just using wood filler but that would work better I think.

at least the $100 dollar price tag now makes sense haha. although those issues dont seem like theyre anything major to fix.

You can't adjust the saddles screws to set the saddles flat parallel to the body or is the bridge against them too tight too flatten them?
Edit sorry I see the first pic with the G string to close to the edge of the fretboard.

Toast have you checked the neck's micro tilt?
The pocket on those T40s often has a smidge of slop to allow the micro tilt to operate easier.
If done wrong the neck can sit crooked. Should only take 15 minutes to loosen the strings and neck and straighten it up.
Then again your bridge could be out of position. Thinking about it you got a weird color, how heavy is this bass? Lots of strange things get done to lighten them up. Maybe the body is after market?
